Looking for headphones up to £200

Hey everyone,

I am looking for home-use or whatever you want to call them headphones. I had my eyes on AKG K550 but I realised that I don't necessarily need closed back ones. I am looking for comfy and preferably easily driven headphones (by that I mean that I could use them to full extent straight from my laptop or hi-fi amp). So I am turning to you, head-fiers, to help me out with my choices here.

Cheers!

The HD 598 might be a good option for you since it is open and doesn't need an amp to sound its best.

In the UK the AKG K612 pros are a great deal. Better than the 598 and cheaper than the 558. They want a bit more power than most portable players will provide, but they'll be great out of your hifi amp.

Seconded. They are a great pair of headphones, and can be bought for £130 new. They are very similar sounding to the Senn HD600.

Thanks indeed! That really seems like a bargain! Since I can get them cheaper than I was expecting I might even add a simple cheap amp on side! Something like FiiO e10. Any suggestions on that front? (I don't think I need to create a new thread for it)
Cheers!

I used to own the AKG K601s, and the K612 are essentially just a facelift of that model. They certainly have the same specs.

I used them with an E10 and it powered them absolutely fine. I eventually upgraded the amp to a Matrix M Stage (still using the E10 as a DAC) and didn't notice any improvements in sound quality. The E10 is a great cheap solution is your are listening through a computer. If you need portable, then the something like the E11, E17 or E12 should work.
