First time buying quality headphones - Primarily for PC gaming, listening to Rock, EDM, Indie,...

My gaming headset (Logitech G930) kicked the bucket the other day and after doing some research I decided that I would be better off purchasing a quality set of headphones and a clip on mic of some sort rather than another piece of junk headset.

I have a giftcard for a local electronics store (Futureshop) so I would like to purchase from there if at all possible. I've identified three possible headphones that from what I understand, are fairly good. However, if a different set of headphones offers much better quality or performance for gaming I would absolutely consider ordering online.

$179.99 - Audio-Technica ATH-M50S

$79.99 - Sennheiser HD518

$73.98 - KOSS Pro DJ100

Is paying the extra $100 for the ATH-M50S really worth it? I should mention that I am from Canada so if I did decide to purchase online it would cost me in shipping and possibly import taxes.

As I mentioned in the title, these would primarily be for gaming. From what I've read, that means I should look for an open headphone design for the increased soundstage? I am not a super-competitive gamer so 100% clarity/directionality (correct terms?) isn't necessary, I still want my games to sound awesome and to "wow" me. Sound leakage does not matter to me.

I browsed through Mad Lust Envy's list but it seems that it is mostly directed to console gamers using Dolby Headphone mode so I'm not sure how applicable the guide is to PC gaming.

Thanks!

I would say to get the Senn HD518.

I'll second the 518s. They wont be as V shaped (and therefore "fun" sounding) as the M50s, but the M50s don't have as good of a sound stage (which is your "directionality") which can help for gaming. I don't think you will be getting a good deal on the M50s at that price.
