For Sale:
AMR DP-777

Will Ship To: CONUS

Need to get rid of one DAC to free up space and funds. Condition is excellent with no signs of wear. This unit has recently been sent back to AMR for evaluation and in doing so has been re-capped and new tubes have been swapped. Basically this is as good as new. Absolutely love this DAC, but due to recent knowledge that has come to my attention, it seems this DAC won't be a good match for my incoming amp. Comes with all the original packaging and accessories. Color is black.

Add 3.5% or pay using "gift" option via PayPal. Shipping is not included, but shouldn't be too bad via UPS Ground. Will consider shipping international (unit has switchable voltage) but buyer is responsible for the full insured price. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask.

Believe me, this DAC wouldn't be going anywhere if it wasn't for a bad technical pairing with the Dynahi. I've compared my two DACs side by side, and this DAC comes dangerously close in most areas to the MSB. Personally for the price, this DAC is a better value being a fraction of the cost of the MSB.

Right now I'm still looking around, but I know the list of potential DACs is pretty short. I absolutely need a balanced DAC to insure a good pairing. Few possibilities come to mind - Empirical Audio Overdrive SE, Schiit Ygg, Vega, and the AGD M7. A few being in a higher price range so that will need to be considered.

Nevertheless, this DAC is the real deal. Don't be afraid to buy. :D

I'm looking forward to the Schiit Ygg, I wonder will it be a contender against those other heavy weights. It will be on my radar along with the Bryston BDA 2, i just hope it wont be +3000 dollars.

Anyway good luck with the sale.

I have high hopes, I would imagine with an added OR6 converter - the combination would rival at least the 3-5K range of DACs.

They call him Bad News Corey haha

well, maybe look at ec designs sd player. I'm in direct relationship with Thorsten loesch, the designer and owner of the AMR dp-777 and he refered me to John Brown at Ecdesigns. Its likely one of the best dac in the world right now.

are you serious? That yoke is a joke.

44.1 16 bit only - whats that about???

hmmmmm, im not even going to answer that.

but shortly, a true 16 bit is virtually impossible to acheive. All the spec mumbo jumbo about higher bit rates is all marketing.

That dag on Corey.  So it seems the DP-777 has high output impedance at lower freqs that would cause a significant roll off <50Hz into the low impedance SuSy.  I wonder if that would be audible?

What DAC are you looking to pair with it.  I'm not selling my DP-777 no way no how.  I'll just have to get another DAC.   I can't pinpoint the sig of the amp - but the Mater 7 might be the way to go.  I'll be also looking at a few more tube DACs with the PCM1704 chip.

Yep - it sucks but I can totally understand why. The sad part is the AMR has balanced outs, but they are basically good for nothing. Even hooked up to the GS-X mk2 it sounded "off". I'm honestly not a fan of DACs coming with "balanced" outs when the topology isn't balanced. I can see the draw, but synergy and even technical matchups are a crapshoot.

Right now, I'm thinking about splurging for the Overdrive SE. As you remember it has always been on my radar and I can finely put to rest any doubt and compare the two giants - MSB The Analog DAC and the Overdrive SE. It is tough going looking for a DAC that is well rounded and is balanced throughout. The M7 is a possibility but according to many the USB is crap without the help of a converter. I can say first hand now that the driver support and overall USB implementation is poor on the AGD SA-1 I have right now.

Just remember - balanced does not mean it sounds better.  Read what Thorsten Loesch has to say about SE vs. balanced. It  does not matter to me - any more.  It use to.  I wanted me rig to be balanced from back to front.  Yes the Dp-777 is a big ole SE DAC..  It still sounds mighty good.

I sure many of the AMR DP-777 owners have a mixture of amps both SE and balanced and from all reviews the DAC sounds good on either.  Not sure how it sounds off with the GS-X mk2 as it has SE inputs as well - and the Ciunas DAC (SE) sound great on it.

Good luck with that Over drive - can't wait to hear your impressions on it.
