Looking for the best silver plated copper cable around - Page 2

I'm actually a newbie to upgrade cables.

Can anyone kinda explain about the sound sig of cables from different brands?

Different brands don't have different sigs. But different wire combinations do. Say, Silver plated copper cable vs copper cable; the silver plated copper cable would be much more neutral and clear while extending the sub bass.

So far from my experience and what I've read,
Silver/ SPC = clarity, neutrality, treble and extended bass, much much wider and taller soundstage, good separation but sounds thin and harsh at times and has decreased mid bass

Copper = bassy and mellow, quite muddy at times, small soundstage, rich and lush sounding
Hybrid Silver+copper/ SPC+ copper = between silver/SPC and copper. Has a certain clarity yet has a decent amount of bass. Soundstage is above average and so is separation. Strikes almost a perfect balance between being lush and being thin.
So far no experience with gold cables yet.

Thank you for the explanation. This is very useful to me. I noticed that silver cables generally are more expensive than SPC. Why is that? Also, what's the difference between 4 or 6 or 8 braidings? Besides the price :P

Silver cables are more expensive cos they are pure silver and not just a coating of silver. I cannot comment on no. Of braids cos I've only heard 2 braids and 8 braids before, however I notice that even though the 8 braid is a hybrid( which would mean it's not so clear) it generally is brighter than a 2 braid SPC cable

So can I assume the more braiding the better the cable sounds?

As an assumption, perhaps. Then again the "worlds best cable", the piccolino, is not an 8 braid IIRC

The famous piccolino.

I have heard of that cable before.

Actually, shall I start again from scratch?

I mostly listen to metal and rock with my w30.

Is SPC a good combination with w30 at all?

Never heard the w30. If the w30 is already somewhat balanced, you wouldn't want an SPC cable especially for rock. You'd want perhaps a hybrid cable to maintain the bass and general warmth and muddiness in order to go well with rock. However, if you are like me and only appreciate vocals and the electric guitars in rock and don't care about the lack of mid bass and general rock sound; then sure why not, an SPC cable is hard to go wrong with most of the time due to its advantages

To me, w30 sounds the same as westone 3.

If assuming they sound the same,  which would suit better for metal and rock? occ copper or spc?

Tbh, I haven't heard W3 either. Was turned off after hearing the W4. But if W3 is a bassier W4 as many people would put it, then I guess SPC would be better( for my personal taste, one who comes from neutral iems that are not traditional rock iems ). The SPC would clear up the sound and remove the mid bass prominence that I have read so often about. It would make the guitars have a more aggressive attack and also the drums would sort of blend in with the music, instead of being the centre of attention( due to the lack of mid bass ). Thus I'd recomend SPC.
