Apogee Mini-DAC

I did a search on this and came up with a few hits but none from people who had heard it first hand. Did anyone end up buying this unit to try it out? At its current price it would be somewhere around the same as a used Bel Canto DAC2, any idea how they compare to each other?

i don't have a bel canto but i have a minidac and a benchmark dac1.

the minidac sounds relaxed and musicial, right out of the box it has good bass and smooth high. Nice details without a sharp sound that pierces your eardrums.

if someone wants i can try to write a review on both of them.

I would very much like a review on the two DAC's, especially the apogee one since I am interested in seeing how that is and may want to buy one.

How's the USB work? And is it processor-intensive? Very interesting... thanks for any info you can spill here, tiberian.

This is great that someone here has actually purchased one. Thank you for taking the time to write that review tiberian.

bangraman:
the mini dac has an ASIO driver but no windows driver. I am using foobar with ASIO plugin to play my music and the built in sound chip of my dell laptop is doing all those beeps and boops.

CPU usage is around 15%(P4 2.4 GHz 1GB memory) when playing wav files and memory usage is around 18 MB.

Thanks. Keep on hunting I guess

some results:
benchmark DAC1 smashed apogee minidac when using a XP7 with ad797s.
i will try ad825s and see what will happen.

edit:
OMG with ad825s the apogee sounded real good now it can go toe to toe against the benchmark...more to come

I've been using the Mini Dac for over three years.  It's a fantastic DAC for the money.  It can be powered by battery to get even better sound.

I have a mini dac, but now considering selling it out. How much would it worth now?

With or without USB or Firewire?  Are you the original owner?  Do you have all the accessories and original box?
