Buying advice

Hi everyone.

I have used and loved my moded hd555 for 3 years now. I know they are not great but the open sound for me is... Gold. Then i got some beats solo as a gift. (They really do suck) but loved the portable factor. So... Started considering getting better portables. Read about the momentum. They sounded great on paper. Really expensive though. Went to the store to check them out... Liked them a lot but... Closed. And then i find out I can get a pair of Hd600 for the same price. Checked the onkyo fc300... Not perfect but great sound and great price. So... What should i do?

a) Get momentum for on the go. Keep hd555 at home.

b) Get hd600 for home and fc300 for on the go.

note: i already own a powerful enough amp.

Thank u all for any help!!!

Any head-fier worth his salt would tell you that 3 headphones are better for than 1!

If you have an amp that's adequate for the HD600s ( which you say you do) then you should have a pretty nice desktop rig, even if you're using your computer's onboard dac. What genres do you usually listen to? Hd600s are extremely good for the price but if you don't listen to a wide range of genes there could be better options.

I listen to indie music so from indie folk and rock to dream pop, shnthpop, a bit of triphop, classic rock, bit of jazz. But anything with clean acoustic sound or lots of "layers" i like. I guess that's why i like open headphones.

^ with that said, since you don't listen to bass heavy music (hip hop, electronic) you might want to look at the akg k701/702/q701s. Depending on what amp you have they could be a better option than the slightly warm hd600s. The 70x's are more detailed especially in the highs and have a better soundstage. Except for trip hop and maybe some jazz, I'd rather have the akg 70x's.
