2. How are the DT 770 Pro 250 OHM against the Audio Technicas M50's?

3. How long have you had these headphones and what are the pros and cons since purchase?

E07/6/5 are poor amplifiers and aren't even suitable for high impedance headphones. The ipod will need a line-out dock + a better amplifier. Perhaps the E12 if you want to stick with FiiO, I think.

M50 has a more revealing midrange but loses out in other aspects except soundstaging if you get your hands on a "golden sample" M50. M50 makes for a better portable, however.

Pros? It rocks and keeps on rocking! Repeat the previous ad infinitum. It scales with better equipment to a degree. I can't think of any cons of owning DT770, other than that it can be revealing of low-bitrate and poor recordings and isn't versatile with amps. Hardly cons to me, although maybe not to the next fellow.

I can't think of any cons to these headphones. I think they are unbelievable and they only cost about $160.

I can't compare them to the M50's because I've never owned a pair but I have had HD600's, HD650's, DT880 600ohm. And the only one I've been totally convinced is the best for my setup is the DT770 250ohms IMO.

Also I don't find them picky on amplification like Mad Max but I have limited experience with amps. But like Mad Max said you can't drive them straight out of an iPod. You definately need more power. But they do sound nice straight out of my Laptop though.

I have no way of knowing if my ATH M50's are a "golden sample", but

overall I like their sound more than the DT770's.

(BTW, the DT880 is one of my favorite all time headphones.)

For me, there is simply too much bass on the DT770's and it

skews out the entire balance.  Its soundstage is mediocre,

the mids and highs are OK at best.

OTOH, they are very, very well made and super comfortable.

For those that love their bass, I'll say that the DT770's

are definitely worth a listen and possibly a purchase.

Otherwise, in and around their price range, there are

more attractive options including the ATH M50 (I've not

yet heard the "X" version.)

I think it would depend on the type of music you listen to. I think they are not overly bassy like the Sennheiser HD-650 for example and most Beats. For me they have the perfect amount of bass for my type of music. Which is mainly rock and electronic.

I don't even have an Eq on them either. For me they are just right. But I will qualify that I did Mod them slightly to get rid of some of the siblance. For me they were a little brighter than nuetral.

How did you mod them?

I also have another question,
If you had to chose between Fiio X3 and iBasso DX50 which one would you get and why?

I think you'll do better with this question in a different thread...:smile_phones:

Pbmaster 14 did the same Mod I did and put three pieces of toilette paper over the drivers. Cut to be the size of the driver. An easy Mod that made a big difference.

Now to your question about the iBasso and the Fiio. I'd go with the Fiio X3 just because I think the warmth would compliment the sound of the DT-770's.

Matrixnobu is right. That is how I have my DT-770's modded.

By the way Zazex this is the appreciation thread so stop trolling here.

That's not trolling, that's just complaining in a thread where it doesn't belong.  -__-'

I spent a few hours tonight with my DT770 Pro 250 ohm paired with my Racoon SG300 tube amp dac combo. I really wanted to get these two puppies sounding right together. After several tests and EQ tweaks in Foobar2000, I have the sound just about right to my ears now. I finally settled on the following.

55 hz at -2

77 hz at -1

110 hz at -1

1.8 kHz at +1

2.5 kHz at +1

3.5 kHz at +1

7 kHz at -1

10 kHz at -2

14 kHz at -2

20 kHz at -2

To my ears, this gives these headphones a much better sound. The sound is far less boomy, and much smoother overall. It took a few hours to get it just right, but this EQ set causes these headphones to become very flat and neutral sounding. I have to say that I am quite impressed now. The headphones just sound so much more enjoyable to me now after making these adjustments. I was thinking of picking up a pair of AKG K612 Pro soon, but I may wait a couple months to do that now. I think I will be happy with this for a good while.

Hey have you guys noticed that the price for the DT-770 250 ohms have gone up on Amazon to $230.

Bought my DT 770s NIB from Amazon for $190 shipped overnight and I have never looked back.  At the moment, they are my favorite HPs.

I just picked up a used pair of DT 990s, listening to them now.  Not quite as good as the DT 770s.  I think I prefer the DT 770s to the DT 990s.
