I would like to introduce myself.  My name is Jeff and I have been into hifi for years.  Always had iPods and listened to headphones with them but only casually.  My main focus has been on my two channel set up and my HT.  I also recently dove into computer based audio.

That said my next venture has been trying to get better sound out of my headphone listening experiences.

In my bedroom system I have a Schiit Modi/Magni set up.

In my office I have a Schiit Asgard 2 that I am using with one of my iPods that I use my Beyer DT 880's.  Not overly happy with these phones, that will be my next purchase, any suggestions?  I also will be adding a Schiit Bifrost to connect to my iMac via USB to feed the Asgard 2 instead of the iPod.

I just got a Cypher Labs Solo R and Duet to use a mobile rig.  Listened to it last night for 3-4 hours.  Incredible.

My two main headphones are the above mentioned Beyer DT 880's and a pair of IEM Etymotic ER-4S.

Looking forward to sharing and talking 'Head-Fi'!

Everyone have a good day!

Jeff

I will be the first to admit that I do not fully understand the whole ohm thing.  I bought the 32 ohm model.  I know that there are I believe three different models of the DT 880's ohm wise.  And maybe I have the wrong model for my application.

That being said, now that I have a much better amp than just plugging it into an iPod the sound quality is not all that impressive to me.  Plus I never fully understood the whole open/closed headphone thing.  My office is just off of our master bedroom and I thought that when I was listening to them that the sound was being isolated to the inside of the headphones, that is until I felt the tap on my shoulder from my wife.  She could listen right along with me from the doorway.  So for my application I would say I would be looking for a closed pair.  My IEM's sound cleaner and more detailed than the 880's.

Budget wise probably $500 on the top end.

Any suggestions?  And maybe some open headphones do not 'leak' as much sound as others???

Jeff
