I can confirm that this $25 glass Toslink cable fits snugly into the Hugo and sounds great:

I turn on my gear regardless of SS or tube for 30min before listening. Its the first thing I do when I get home.

I only have Redbook files but I'll test 24/192 PCM if you can point me to a sample file somewhere.  Can any Linux programs play DSD?  I'm playing from my laptop to an iFi iLink to the Hugo.

It turns out mpd can play DSD files on Linux so if you can point me to a DSD sample then I'll test that too.

Try Blue Coast or buy cheap samplers from Opus3 DSD. For DXD you could try 2L - they also do DSD but they are more like translates from DXD.

Second ad the device is being designed just hiw much does the designer take into account of the parts being used. My guess in this is plenty as some do chNge over time and a design goal in both spec,s and in voicing it must be considered. But no ones knows all the devices put other and how they will sound in let's say 500 hours of burn in.
Then take into account the manufacturing of the device and it's ever changing compOnent values.

Perhaps topics on burn-in should go to another thread? A bit contested/ heated area...

I am not an admin and not looking to go off topic but I think it does belong here as it's part of buying new products. And given plenty of people here have different opinions on the sound of the hugo it's very worthwhile by me. Him much can best to death connectors that will fit or not.

As long as it doesn't end in a big heated burn-in debate which this type of thing tends to, then all is well.

Now that is a very good point I did not think about. The argument factor sorry I will rescind my comment no more .

Yup, mpd has been able to play dsd for a while now - almost two years if you're tracking git or vortexbox builds, as a matter of fact.

As for free dsd samples, maybe these; http://www.2l.no/hires/
