I too need to find a digital coaxial cable... AQ Diamond is a bit too much. Anything around $300.00?

Check out thecableco.com. I love their lending library around cables. Really let's you audition the differences.

Gigabyte have some "audio grade" USB ports in their premium mobo. I just found that out when I was shopping for a gaming micro-PC. I think I will give it a shot.

are you referring to this one? it got reviewed yesterday, very highly scored 9.9, for a audiophile motherboard, its up there with the top gaming boards as well, might considering getting this to compliment my hugo.

Just tried again today, foobar still throws unrecoverable error repeatedly using SD USB, but runs perfectly under HD USB.

Notice also that it seems to occur on specific songs only, but at different parts of the song so the crashing point is not consistent, These songs play fine on HD USB.

Are you using the chord driver while using the sd usb?

Motherboards are good and all. But personally, I would start with audiophile usb card and look at power. Nice thing about that is the usb card can be used in any system.

I know what you mean. For some reason, even though Windows has some quirks, I can always seem to get around them, and the Apple OS seems awkward and hard to control and sometimes too cute for its own good.
The Apple tablet OS is good though.

What difficulties were you having as this reads like unfamiliarity with osx more than anything although it really is plug and play.

iMac snow leopard detected Hugo just fine (or rather that there was an external sound device connected). Having midi control panel open confirmed the auto detection. Hit play on iTunes job done (remember Mac optical output is natively bit perfect)

The halide is a BNC connector at the end as thisbisbthebway mine is. So you a bnc to RCA adaptor .

Second a MacBook Pro is ok but it's still a mobile CPU . Any pritbles inhave tired yielded ok results but desktops always sound better. An I7 CPU sounds better than an older one as well.

A PPA PCI x USB card and the battery adaptor is cheap and simple to use. It was the biggest boost in sound quality at the cheapest price.

I had a fellow headfier over last night and we compared the AK240 optical out to my iPhone 5. It was a close race for sure . I still feel the iPhone was atad better. But this is with PCM . Now when we went to dsd the show was over .

For me the iPhone 5 is a simple way to play all of my music Ina pritbles system.

Now thus same person also feels the iPod sounded much worse than the AK240 combo. The only answer I have is the CPU in the iPhone being better than the iPod . Anyone here have any thoughts in this ??

wow the last sentence about ipod and iPhone draw my attention, I have the ipod touch 5 and ipad mini retina 128gb, and for some sometimes I felt that the ipad was better than my ipod but I used to dismiss this fining thinking that maybe I was tired when I listened to the ipod compared to ipad mini. But now this is worth my investigation and making a comparison using same files and no eq to see how they compare.

Hahahaha. I have a few iPads but none with a lightening plug. There is a difrence. The person I had over has very good ears and simaler taste in the sound we like. As I did not hear opit myself the look on his face was good enough for me. There must be a difference . Do you use onkyo HF player in the iPad to play all formats ??

Listening for the last 2 days with the\Hugo in my near-field rig with the Fritz Carbon 7SE monitors and using a Marantz integrated amplifier  and the Hugo is letting all the detail and musicality come through easily form the imac. The Hugo as a dac performs admirably. My review is coming on audio360.org shortly. I also have one of my reviewers working ion the review for September in Headphone.Guru

Mr. Watts, this may not a good question to ask here... but am very curious about the next gen QBD76 that you are working on now.
What will be the advantages of the next gen QBD76 over Hugo?
I would imagine that the next gen QBD76 will have more taps than Hugo that will surely make the sound better... but on the other hand, Hugo has clean power supply from battery and has the simplest OP stage that are rarely found in desktop size DACs. So I wonder what possible advantages the next gen QBD76 will have other than more number of taps.
Also, I would like to know if you would give digital volume so that we can use it as a pre-amplifier as well.
My boss is very interested in Hugo but is wondering if he should go for Hugo or wait for the next gen QBD76.

i need to investigate this maybe tomorrow as at one at one point as i mentioned i noticed that my iPad mini is better than the ipod touch but i never thought that it can be different until u mentioned it and i only used the iPad with hugo only 4 times and only use the iPod with hugo, this is why i need to investigate the difference

yes i use onkyo player but so far i did not succeed to play ape files, as for dsd not my interest as the music i listen to is not avaibale in dsd

Is there a chord driver for SD? thought the driver was for HD only.

It is.  Just wondering if you installed it for HD and it was somehow using it when you used SD.  Are you on Mac or PC?
