Thanks rudi. Can you tell the difference of ak240 and ak120 being a source optical to Hugo? Basically I don't hear any differences between them but I can tell that both of them sounds better than ak100 when optical out to Hugo. The improvement is not big but definitely can tell. I gain better space from ak120/240 than the 100.

The signal produced by the DAP does. The cleaner the signal, the better Hugo will process it.

Pretty amazing sound from youtube channel hdbeatles (awesome live performances in HD, check it out) w/ Hugo + TH900s or Oppo PM1s or even Grado GS1000i.

'spent all evening with these vids; couldn't turn away...

Sorry man, my mistake. I meant it the other way. What I wanted to ask was how, seeing that I only have 1 DAP, and no portable amps before. :(

Finally got my hands on the copy of WHF with the DAC group test that saw them give the Hugo its due - entertaining reading and some nice pics but I would have liked to see NAD's M51 included even if it meant omitting the Fostex DAC.

It will drive basically anything on the IEMs side to their utmost potential. Trust me dude, I am completely blown away. I was listening to Thriller 24/96 through AK 240 - AKR 03, it was good but didn't impress at all for a sub 2000 usd IEM. But when I switched to Hugo... OH MY GOD, its like listening to a whole new album. My head was rocking, feet thumping, smiling involuntarily. I may be exaggerating, but it really was that good.

I'm looking to upgrade my IEM's so I'm interested in a couple of totl brands, FitEar, Translucent & the SE846's.... I know how good the Hugo sounds, my ears have been nagging me to get one ever since I demo'ed it.

back to the music, Bobby Womack died today sadly... spent many days of my youth enjoying the great soul masters (still do today as well), here's a little taste of the great man.

I have about 11 pairs. There is two really good threads on CIEM,s here. One by ave joe and the other is joker . They list many of them with details. And have a few of of my own they are very well done.
You mentioned fit ear they are very good a little mid recessed at least the tg334 is and I had them made custom . Pure clarity is the jh13 FP , but it lacks good dynamics and the notes are a little thin but details rule. The jh16 seem better overall to me and can handle the dynamics better . The Roxanne's are the best in notes and dynamics. But the top rolls off and gets flat . Good luck look up the threads and ask mentor the two guys I mentioned .

In my possession is an ex-demo unit currently on tour. Not offering an opinion on sound and usage at this initial stage (four-hours listening thus far). Three observations:

(1) No idea how long this has been on tour for but there are very light surface marks evident - without wishing to get anyone in trouble(!). If this was my unit returned to me I would be upset (though not enough to get a replacement if that makes sense).

To manufacturers: please ensure a protection case is available as close to product launch as possible.*

To consumers: pending an official case, accept wear and tear or invest in protection!

*Since bands are included in the box maybe Chord could provide a pad also in future (à la CypherLabs who provide an embossed leather pad) for use when bundling devices together.

(2) The Chord Hugo is smaller and lighter than imagined. Hard to judge from photographs as online reviewers to date appear to prefer 'art shots'. Perhaps it is the angular shape implying bulk, but not so in person. Will take useful size comparison photos in good time.

(3) Rainbow colour indicators leads to a certain amount of blind button pressing until you learn the code I guess(?)

For input select and crossfeed: fine.
For volume control: not fine when you make that mistake of thinking it is turned down!! Oh ho ho ho...

More to follow. Thanks!

I would like to quantify a few points if I may... the Hugo you have is a ex-demonstration unit loaned to me by Chord, it is not an 'official tour' as such but something I thought some of my fellow Head-Fi'ers would enjoy demonstrating & maybe posting their views on the musicality & flexibility of the Hugo.

The Hugo loaned to me really shouldn't be viewed as anything other than a ex-demo unit & not the retail version... hope that clears things up.
