Chord Hugo - Page 385

I am actually something of a cynic when it comes to cables, etc. However,I have just spent the best part of two weeks re-ripping my

entire CD collection from ALAC to WAV using error correction.I had scoured the net trying to find if there was a difference in sound

quality between the two formats.Impossible to reach a conclusive answer,"bits are bits, etc."In the end I took three CDs I know really

well, and compared them in the two formats.I was astounded,WAV won hands down! So,I'm more open minded about cables than I

was before. If it would have been possible to fit an adapter,I would have bought a Furutech Formula 2,£40 on ebay, not too much of a

gamble.I'll probably go for a Forza,£30/40.Seems to me that if Im going to drop £1400 on something,I might as well take it to the nth

degree. Thanks for your help and advice,I very much appreciate it.

You're right it was something to do with preamp stage. I changed some settings and all is fine. However, that could only mean it's best to connect Hugo directly to a power amplifier or active speakers without a pre stage. The pre stage might worsen the purity of the sound coming from Hugo.

Not to rock your ripping world. But wav = no meta data.
Flac no compression has it.
They play exactly the same though.
Just a thought

Glad if I could be of any help. Furutech seems reasonable. Good brand.  Price/value ratio is important.

will need to A/B a bit more using HD800 without an additional amp

so whats the impression on this as I am using also an iPod with hugo

funnily enough I got my ZX1 back today... the ZX1 is a DSD/Hi-Res Dap so they're just stating the cable can handle this type of format, you'll have no problems with any other file format mp3 etc.

it only works with Walkmans as it is via WM-Port, hth.

Hello People,

I'm using my Hugo with my iPhone 5 as transport - is there a point getting the (expensive) future-tech cables? Even if they do 'work' presumably the required apple CCK would be a stumbling block to any SQ improvements??

Thanks,

Hugo basically will make your jaws dropped and your wallet empty.
It will drive basically anything on the IEMs side to their utmost potential. Trust me dude, I am completely blown away. I was listening to Thriller 24/96 through AK 240 - AKR 03, it was good but didn't impress at all for a sub 2000 usd IEM. But when I switched to Hugo... OH MY GOD, its like listening to a whole new album. My head was rocking, feet thumping, smiling involuntarily. I may be exaggerating, but it really was that good.

Does the source (DAP) affect the sound coming out from the hugo?
