The audioquest locally (not in stock).

I got mine from audio advisor.

I use a 3 meter AQ Carbon with their adapter and it sounds great, much better and more controlled than a regular free usb cable.

Like I said earlier, that's my main gripe with the Hugo, that darn micro B port.

Someone here earlier in response to my comment about there not being high end Audioquest cables with the micro B plug said there was such a thing: a Carbon with (usb 2.0 A to micro B), but the only ones I have found are usb 3.0, which will not fit on the B end.

Interesting that so many are going with USB cables when one of the first claims made in this thread is that the coax connection is superior. I had the HiFace working perfectly from my Mac Mini for a week or so till the Mini decided it didnt want to recognise the ^$#! thing - went to an adapter with my Furutech mini-USB cable now I'm forced to use a stock micro-USB cable that probably cost all of $2 to make. It's a tribute to the Hugo that I dont even think about the cable from the instant the music starts.

Isn't this great I think my unit just blow up, plugged it in to charge and than I notice no light came on. A burnt smell is also coming out if, no idea why that happened, I use surge protection plugs too.

I am convered under the warranty but it makes it kind of frightening to realise what if this was to happen when warranty is finished.

Actually Rob Watts said he preferred the optical input for the best sound.  That being said, he also prefers the least amount of hardware in the playback.  So if coming off a PC/MAC, the shortest route without additional hardware is the USB 2.0.  Also you get all format abilities with the HD micro port.  All being said, if using a PC/Mac with a USB 2.0/3.0 port is in my opinion the best sounding option with the most abilities.  Otherwise the other option is too add some other hardware device in between the PC/Mac which may introduce additional noise or use a non pc/mac device for optical/coaxial hook up.

USB is my preferred hook up to the Hugo.

My current preference is Audiophilleo 1 > Hi-res USB > Optical (AK240) / X5 coax. I use the hi-res USB most of the time though.

Did Rob ever say that?!

that sucks..... sorry to hear that. hope you get it fixed soon

there are quite a few build quality issues with the Hugo, wheel came off, micro usb came off....now this.... I also often just leave it with the power plugged in as well.

I know this is going to be an unpopular comment but I dont think this thing has a goog build quality especially for portable use and for this price, god forbids...

In fact, my  China made Hifiman HM-901 went through more abuse and it is still standing tall... kkcc also complimented that my HM-901 is still in excellent quality LoL not putting up for sale, so dont worry...

I think I was just a little unlucky. Not really sure what is the cause.

I had the Sony PCM D50 (sold) and it can only play WAV up to 24/96 and not able to play 24/88.  Does this one has the same limitation?

chord are pretty goog about this kind of thing, but I do hope your still covered as it might depend on which components have burned in side. As this can most likely tell them not just that it's dead but why it failed too. Were you using the exact wall wart charger that came from Cord and are your sure your surge protection plugs don't have some way of possibly reversing the polarity of the charging voltage in some way.

Mr Watts emailed me few minutes after my post. I am just glad I bought it locally as it makes it much easier to have this sort of matters solved. I was using the Australian PSU provided and I have no idea about what my surge protection does with the polarity.

I did have the rca plugged in and the other end just loss, could the two rca touching each other might have cause it? I am not really sure, such stuff happens with electrical stuff, I am very happy with the sound and that what matters.

My local dealer already told me he is getting some stock soon and he is happy yo replace it for me.

My charger is not the PSU block that I've seen on the web, mine is just an adapter.

you are lucky but I am glad you will get a new unit soon. My experience was different as I emailed Chord two times and they still have not bothered to reply me. So I resolved it locally. I did exchange PM with Rob via PMs but learnt that he is a consultant for Chord.

Yea it is kind of nerve wrecking considering the price point. This is why I dislike getting anything expensive internationally as it just causes too much of a headache.

I hope you get your issue solved soon too, I know how bothersome it can get sometimes in order to get your gears fixed under warranty.

So, just for confirmation, when we are playing DSD files and are using the AK240 > good toslink cable (eg. sysconcept, moon audio silver dragon) > Hugo, the white light on the Hugo indicating DSD operation will never show up. This seems to be the case since on page 7 of the AK 240 user manual it says that "DSD format is not supported using the optical format." Is that correct, guys? Sounds like the manual should have said, "native DSD format is not supported using the optical format" instead for better clarification, right?
