My stock TosLink cable bundled with Hugo do not work with anything above 24/96 too. You will need to get an optical cable capable of passing 24/192. I remember one guy found a cheap optical cable that can pass 24/192 a few pages back.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I've just been comparing three portable sources with my Hugo:

  • iphone through USB streaming FLAC files from my server using JRMC
  • 160GB ipod classic playing ALAC files converted to coax SPDIF through the CLAS
  • optical out from the AK120 playing FLAC files.

This was using the HD800/Blue Dragon directly from  the Hugo headphone output.

Surprisingly, the iphone through USB sounded the best, followed by the AK120 optical output, then the CLAS coax digital ouput. The iphone/USB sounded sharpest, cleanest and most dynamic. The AK120 was very close behind, perhaps sounding a bit airier but also a tad grainier. The ipod/CLAS sounded grainier still, a shade softer and less resolving. There was not a lot in it - any of these sources sounded great - but the differences, while subtle, were noticeable.

I also compared the heapdhone output of the AK120 against the Hugo using my JH13pros. The AK120 sounded great, but there was no question that the Hugo was an order of magnitude better. It sounded bigger, deeper, more extended in every direction, more natural, and just easier to listen to. I just love this little device!

Just a question, does your AK120 outputs 24/192 flac successfully?

what do you mean exactly by: " iphone through USB streaming FLAC files from my server using JRMC " ?

- Aren't you just using the CCK -> HUGO USB ?

- Are the files stored on yout iPhone or..your server ?

JRMC run on Mac...not iPhone ? ?

Last thing you want is selling the K3003 and getting the HD800 only to find out it was not what you wanted and now you want your K3003 back but you have to buy it at near full price!

Good luck.

that really is sterling advice, originally I thought CU was after one or the other but now I realise he has the K3003 it's best to get Hugo first then see what he wants, if at all.

I'd love to chip-in about our products but hey... this is the Hugo thread and we're down the hall >>>

Since hugo and noble are partners perhaps.......some future deals? :D

I have NO 24/192 problem: with the short STOCK Optical cable supplied with the HUGO, I get 26/96 & 24/192 from my AK100 without any problem.

see the color of the lights here (green = 96 kHz,  Blue = 192 kHz).  Hotel California is FLAC 24/192 (a 260 Mo File) !

Will try with 24/192  WAV & ALAC later

There seems to be a great accessory variation across the hugo line, mine does not look like that all al. Infact mine is black and has no mini-toslink format. Is that normal?

PS: i am not really worried about the 24/192 quality, it is just that I cannot play it without re-formatting it and I find that cumbersome. I've heard that AK1xx do not output 24 bit signals anyway.

Yes, I'm using CCK > Hugo USB. However, the files are FLAC files stored on my PC (which runs JRMC), and I am streaming (and playing) them using the JRMC app.

I think it's best I make things plain for everyone about Noble's relationship with Chord... we are not 'Partners' as such but we assist each other with Joint-Promotion so we can reach a wider audience via Events/Shows in USA & Europe, there are no formal agreements it's done on trust & friendship.

Chord 'will not' endorse our products as they cannot be seen to favour one manufacturer over another (understandably), obviously they have evaluated some of our products (they have K10, 8C & N6 Universal demo units) which are used for Events/Shows they organise (along with KEF M500 & Audeze LCD-3)... at events Noble organise we only use Chord's and our own products (excepting sources). Likewise Noble won't endorse the Hugo but it is no secret we love it... 'the best deserves the best' easily comes to mind without much thought on my part but I'm probably biased.

It really is too early to talk about 'deals' as we really are in a 'pilot stage'  but I know Brannan is talking to Chord's North American distributor and as such, you'll be able to pick-up a Chord Hugo with a 10% discount at the Axpona Hi-Fi Show, Chicago (when they're gone they're gone, limited amount I believe)... we will be looking to expand the Shows/Events after things have been evaluated, I'll keep you updated on any developments or 'deals' for sure.

Do you use Onkyo app in the iPhone end for high res or DoP/DSD material? Sorry for being a bit ignorance re: iPhone etc.

No, I use the JRMC app to stream from my server.

So I take it with JRMC one will be able to stream 24/192 files as well as DSD (via DoP) without any problem?
