Chord Hugo - Page 105

I tend to think of Hugo as a DAC first. Too bad not more comparisions of it in ref. system with dedicated headamp.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

you could say the same of almost every portable DAC//Amp out there... for the most they're all oblong with cables inserted into various orifices.

I have compared to my amps (ALO studio six, Beyerdynamic a1, Bryston BHA-1, pathos Aurium, sugden headmaster) and as a headphone amp it is on par with all but ALO studio six as a head amp. The a Hugo is spacious, transparent, layered and never etchy.

Haven't hooked up Hugo to studio six but can say the ONLY time I have heard the HD800 and liked it was thru studio six. Harshness and etchiness wasn't there.

ALO SS is my favourite amp for the HD 800 so far. IMO, one word to sum it up - Organic.

Does the Hugo light up when it's being charged?

Mine is being charged but no charging  lights are on, I'm worried the charger might be faulty.

Yes, a white light should go on while it's charging (visible inside the big clear window, off to the side of the window a bit).

Once charging is complete, the light turns off. If your Hugo was recently charged fully (but unplugged and not used), that light will probably not turn the next time you plug the Hugo's charger in (due to the battery's fully-charged state).

There should be a white LED below the crossfeed LED next to the CHORD logo on the circuit board that indicates it's charging. It should light up if the power supply is plugged in.

Thanks. It must be fully charged then.

No Hugo-specific guides out there yet but here's something similar for QuteHD and QBD76 HDSD

And then we've got quite a few guides for other brands that should be close enough
