Chord Hugo - Page 96

Quick question guys: if I want to use my 901 as a transport for the Hugo, I need the 901 dock right? There is no other way to get a digital line out from 901 right?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Not really, just grab the red one (FYI - white = coaxial input) for 120 RMB and we're good to go

Awesome! But can I plug this thingy straight into the Hugo? Don't I need a cable in between. If white is coax, what is red? Coax output?

Mim, red is coaxial out. HM-901 can take coaxial in and work as a DAC/AMP

and you need a coaxial cable with rca to rca termination to connect between hm-901 (transport) and hugo (DAC/AMP).

e.g.

Thanks Frankie! Great find.

Thanks guys.

Update ... If the exceptional sound, function and form factor of the Hugo wasn't enough to make me a new loyal Chord customer, the service I am receiving takes it over the top. Within one business day they had picked up my Hugo and committed to resolving the matter. It helps that my dealer (Richard Becker) and distributor (Bluebird Music) are consumer obssessed. They got all over it on my behalf. Good sign that Chord has put in place a strong distributor and dealer network so early production warranty issues are handled fast.

Very good to hear they are resolving the problem quickly. Hopefully you will get your unit back asap!

FYI - just posted another reply here for something closely related HM-901

I've been thinking about what's THE "ultimate" desktop transport for Hugo these days without having to sell my organs.

By far those pro audio brands such as Lynx Studio and RME are the winners when it comes to digital outputs. And the very best should be $1,799 RME MADI FX

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/manufacturer/RME

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RME-HDSPe-MADI-128-Ch-24-192-MADI-PCIe-Card-/261433043101

Heck, even the analog output is on par (or superior) when compared to MUCH more expensive gears

Of course we still need something to decode DSD128 natively and that's when Hugo comes to the rescue.

However, there are no RCA jacks found on those pro audio interfaces except for Lynx Hilo. Now we've gotta find a cable with DB-9 connector on one end and RCA on another

But that cable above wasn't exactly made anything close to ToTL materials to begin with. Maybe we could split some flagship coaxial cables into 2 parts, then re-terminate one end with DB-9 afterwards? (We could probably sell another half to someone else.)

As usual the tricky part is getting the right RCA connector for Hugo's recessed jack without resorting to RCA jack extenders or even stuff like sandpapers to hack away part of the RCA connector. I saw a reasonably priced cable but the RCA connector doesn't look very optimistic to me

So the search for the right ToTL coaxial cable continues and please kindly chime in if there were any ideal candidates.

DoP working with digital input on the Hugo. Had to make up a digital cable today with BNC end for the Lumin and RCA that fits the Hugo and is working fine now. Initial sound is very analog and luring, background sounded quieter then MBA > Hugo via USB. Letting it settle for a couple of days for more comparative listening. Hope more portable players can incorporate DoP for digital output (hope AK is listening) ....

That's great news that DoP over coaxial is working! Looking forward to your updates!

I can only say it's a close call at the moment, and that only from the dac portion. The Hugo will be a bit handicapped as analog output interconnects that will fit are very limited. Let me run this setup a couple of days and report back

Thanks - the Hugo is the first dac i have heard that keeps me from spinning as much vinyl. I think the amp is on par with my megabuck headphone amps too.

Apparently today to connect a SONY ZX1 to a HUGO, you need 2 pieces:  the WMC-NWH10 proprietary cable  PLUS a USB/mini-USB.

I understood that CHORD is looking into a better solution for Walkman's: a direct WM-Port/Mini-USB cable?

any news ?
