Guys, in the interests of fairness to anyone still on the fence re the Hugo, I've written up a 'proper' FS ad:

Please read through the FAQ in it's entirety before PM'ing me, but any questions re 'Hugo vs another DAC' may be better directed here.

Thanks,

The Hugo matched my home dac in comparison, home dac is much larger, Hugo also has much better usb input and less limitations due to more current. I also had a ground loop with the home dac in the configuration i used it so Hugo solved that. Moved home dac to mid-fi speaker setup to upgrade it immensely and used Hugo on HP. Win win, however i agree that there should be comparable or better dac only solutions at the price if one has a good amp already. That said, i'm good and still the best audio buy I have yet made, and i've made a few, see profile.

Over 1 year of using Hugo, I found it sound the best with low impedance headphones.
Hugo TT is better with High impedance like Hd800,lcd3 Fazor,T1...
Hugo TT better in every aspect ,but detail sound same.

it's sound fuller than hugo, which some times sound colorless . both of them sound amazing
I'll say Hugo TT:  there is no huge improvement over Hugo .

"no huge improvement over Hugo" .... but twice the price !!!!

Mr. Chord, what we want is a "HUGO 2" now, not a TT.

More than enough power for the HD800. Sound is fantastic, period. I've never tried the Hugo TT but I wish I could. I can image that the Hugo TT sounds in some aspects better than the Hugo. The thing is, they share the same DNA - which is basically the reason for most of the people cherishing the Hugo.

I'm sure the Hugo TT is better with the HD 800 in some aspects, but the law of diminishing returns certainly applies. I was considering it in an earlier stage as a complement for the Hugo (TT for main rig, Hugo for bedroom «rig»), but now I think I'm gonna save up for project xxxx.

Rob Watts: «The project xxxx will be more expensive than the QBD76... ...it is a big step change from Hugo TT. It is a digital pre-amp with headphone drive. ... Depth perception is about 3 times deeper with xxxx against Hugo, and Hugo images very well.»

I am also interested in project xxxx, but, if it is going to be so expensive, that is a total letdown.

also, about it being a pre-amp, does this mean that it will need a separate DAC?Amp? I hane no ideea what a pre-amp needs anymore,

I can imagine that it has analogue inputs and an ADC (not sure about that, though), apart from that it is what the Hugo (TT) is: a DAC with headphone out and line out with digital volume control. «Project xxxx headphone drive is a little more voltage, same current as Hugo.»

Guys, is the Hugo powerful enough to drive most headphones out there like the Audezes, Sennheiser HD6XXs, HD800, and so on?
My friend keeps telling me it's not enough so I should go for something else instead but I've heard plenty of comments on this thread and elsewhere that the Hugo is powerful enough for pretty much anything out there. I'm just confused. :frowning2:
