...or just buy an unbranded USB cable and save £50

I just received the Audioquest Cinnamon micro USB and it is too fat for the recessed HD port of the Hugo.  Bummer.
To bad, mine works fine. Course it's modified for the hugo micro port....

Was the fat red end filed down by AQ?

No - most just get an old bread knife, heat it with a lighter and use that to mold the 'fat red end' plastic around the connector so that it can be inserted into the recessed Hugo micro USB port. It's not particularly pretty, but you didnt buy that cable just cause it looks pretty, did you ?  ;)

I do understand your recommendation for a great headphone (I mean it makes more sense that way) but after demoing just about every headphone out there, I love the 650. I mean, I am aware that it's not as defined as LCDs, nor fast, nor less-laid back, and so on, but I like it. :p

But I am taking a look at the EL-8 meanwhile.

I have the chord hugo and the hd 650. From my experience, the 650s on the hugo still sound dark, and have what others have called the " veil of sennheiser". In short, they are AMAZING! I've never heard the 650s sound so clear, precise, and musical. However, using the 650s will not get the best out of the hugo. The 650s cannot harness the full potential of the hguo. If you really want to experience what the hugo can do, you need at least the hifiman he 500 or audeze lcd 2. These two take full advantage of the hugo; however, the 650s do a decent job.

Thanks for your input! I've loved the 650s since the beginning of my head-fi journey (they were, in fact, the first headphones I've ever put on) so I plan to use it with the Chord Hugo as well as other headphones. I was worried about the dark sound and the veil because I love them both (weirdly, because I know there are a million headphones out there that do some everything better than the 650) and I've tried amps like Burson amps with the 650s and they take the veil and the darkness away. I did not like it at all :( I mean, the sound does become clearer without the darkness and the "veil" but I love my 650s for those elements. Somewhere down the road however, I do plan to get something better (LCD-3s are my second favourite after the 650s). Will pull the trigger on the Hugo in a couple of weeks or so then...

Anyone using the AK120 to feed the Hugo, don't know if this has been discussed, probably. The EQ on the ak120 seems to work when using the optical out to the Hugo. I was confused with this because i figured the EQ was a function of the AK120 dac, which is being bypassed when using the optical out…..?? Anyone know what thats about? Just curious, i made possibly a questionable iem purchase that needs EQ drastically. I have never EQed a pair of headphones over a decade so it's kinda new to me.

If the EQ is digital, as it is with the FiiO X5, then it will operate on all outputs, headphone, line and digital.

Yeah, i guess that would explain it. I didn't realize that was even done. Good thing for me though at this point.

I always had the same question, from way back when I realized the EQ on an iPod would affect the output from a CLAS.
