Best Importing Format for Itunes

Does anybody here know what the best importing format for AUDIO CD's are?

I'd be using my Ipod Classic Video (30GB) to play the music on.

Thanks.

I would import them in ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) if you're taking the time to rip them. That will give you a lossless source which you can transcode into lossy formats if you desire in the future. You should be able to upload and play ALAC directly from your iPod Classic.

Alright, I'm importing everything onto my laptop. Is there a way to get all of the ALAC files onto my other PC downstairs as well without ripping all the CD's twice?

Yeah, I don't even know what to do. I just want max settings for listening on good headphones and in my car.

I use mp3, variable bitrate, highest quality (256kbps) or fixed bitrate 320kbps (import with XLD because of better quality). Alac may be lossless and you are fine, as long as you stick with your iPod. I thought so too. But recently I upgraded my player to a Cowon. Huge sound improvement compared to my previous iPods! Needless to say I am really happy that my 120 GB of music are in a compatible format and not Alac.

Just to puzzle you a bit...

Oh, and, btw., the lossy high-quality mp3 on the Cowon player sound so much better than Alac on any iPod.
