I am planning on purchasing the Spirit professional and was wondering which DAP would be a better fit:
Fiio X5 or Ibasso DX90?
Any experiences with either DAP?
Unfortunately the local warranty here is only 1 year, kind of a deal breaker too.. My guess is with heavy to moderate use that these would battle to make it past 2 years. I hope their warranty support is just as good as that of Shure!
Yeah the Dealer I bought it from has referred me to their distributor: Audio Plus Sound, so I've contacted the dude who can solve this thing for me.
I guess it's good that I had this problem as I'm sure many people are wondering about the replacement process. I will update this thread and let you all know what happens if the plastic cracks on your FSP.
I've had the spirit pro for about two weeks now, and I must say, the longer I own this headphone, the more I like it.
As soon as I put on my V-Moda M100 after having this on, I'm a tad dissapointed, and I can't wait to put the pro's back on.
That's not to say that the m100's arent great headphones; they are, but I just can't help somethings missing when I listen to them.
I'd say the pro's are quite aggressive headphones, rock/metal sounds REALLY nice on these, the guitars really get that sound you (should say I) want them to have.
Even for Rap the focal's give a nice and really punchy, fast paced bass, and really clean vocals, so I really like them for that too.
One difference I noticed in the mids of the m100's is that they are a bit more ''liquid'' than the focals, which are a bit more dry. I guess thats just the coloration of the vmoda headphone. Which also inevitably makes the mids less sharp than the m100's
edit: All personal opinion ofcouse
This pretty much sums it up. Most headphones sound like they're missing informatino compared to the FSP. The FSP shows you everything without exaggerating any particular part.
Thanks Claritas. And I agree with you that it's kind of sad that people have to think about the warranty even before spending $350 on a headphone. This is just my guess but I think Focal will eventually update the FSP like they did with their ONE model. I know their official line is "there are no planned updates," but that's what companies always say. I know they're aware of the complaints for build quality and earcup size.
So the dudes at Audio Plus Services contacted me and they're willing to send me a new replacement pair. I'm mailing them my cracked FSP today with my receipt and RMA number etc.
Once I get the replacement pair I will update the first page of this thread with all the details of how to get your pair replaced and who the right guys to contact are.
I'm also thinking about selling the replacement pair (new in box) without opening them as I don't want to go through this hassle again. So someone might be looking a nice discount for a brand new pair very soon...
I will miss their awesome neutral sound but I can wait for Focal to update the model or some other company to come out with something similar. With the Harmon target response curve out there now I think it's only a matter of time before someone makes one that's even more neutral.
You know what they say, "Third time's the charm." And they seem to respond well to fair criticism. So I'm hoping Tyll or someone they listen to tells them to step up build and fit quality because they got the sound part right. A well-made, fully over ear Focal would knock everything comparably-priced off the WOF in this category.
I'm definitely buying the next FSP if they manage to sort out the build & comfort, like M-13 said, the FSP is just amazing at extracting details without putting it at all in your face. I listened to some classical tracks and the detail on piano and violin notes were just amazing, it really made music feel more alive. If I had to pick one headphone I could easily live with only these. Probably better headphones around for EDM, but then again I wouldn't want a too resolving headphone for that.
Well I purchased the Fidelio L1s as a second set now to use at work. They've got aluminium were it counts and originally sold for close to the same MSRP as the FSP. I'll be all ears when Focal releases an update.
