Liquid Gold - 2014 - Page 5

Awww man you're in for a TREAT!!!  Just last night, listening to my LCD-3 with Fazor + Double Dream Helix Cable terminated in quad TRS via a VPI TT with a Ginkgo Biloba and the cart before the horse with vibration headers and footers - it was such a profoundly moving experience I was overwhelmed by its power.  I had to share it with a man passing by - he was moved to tears. e told me that in his whole life he had never encountered beauty like this.

Today I was turnin' some sweet jams, "playing house" with my daughter but not in the way you'd usually think of it!  We got some hardcore beats, I'm pretty awesome as far as people go.

I couldn't take the heat so I turned down the therm o'stat with a throwback, the genuine old skool Ice Ice Baby.  At this point I had switched to my Oppo PMS and the refrain was so haunting I got GOOSEBUMPS, it was truly a moment I had and I made sure everyone knew about it.

Next I listened to a track by my dear friend, the lovely Norah Jones, who I had the pleasure of being introduced to once at a charity event I was bussing for, by my mentor (also a dear friend) mixing engineer and Mos Def's 2nd cousin DJ Funky Nurples.  Her voice - every note, every BREATH - it was palpable as if I was there and Norah was breathing in my ear.  Since ear-breathing weirds me out I elbowed her to knock it off, but she wasn't actually there and I was still with my daughter.  After dressing my kid's wounds it was BACK TO BASICS with some serious retro tunes - the hit Let's Get it Started from the now-legendary Now that's what I call Music 17.

This amp is sick!!!  I didn't want to stop, everything just flowed so naturally like platitudes from a politician.  So I spun one of my truly special recordings, the now rare Call Me Maybe made famous by e geniuses over at Kidz Bop on Kidz Bop 22.  This song got me quite emotional as I am often befuddled over whether to use the telephone or not.  It really hit me in a deep place.  I almost lost it.  But then I found it in between the seat cushions on the couch.  MAGICAL!

You can't go wrong with the Liquid Gold - it is seriously the Standard Bearer for what an amp should e.

Was that some sort of joke?

Tari, a friend of mine from CNET read this review and he's positive that you have what it takes to write for them. Expect a big, fat PM.

The industry needs more people like you!

Yes it was. Aimed at me.
It's totally cool.
I'm not phazed.
In DC kickin it w/ family,
Gonna hit CanMani this weekend at the Capital Audiofest!

And - I love it when my enthusiasm gets to people. But it doesn't matter. That same enthusiasm brought this wonderful man, Ralph, a retired Marine, to tears after I played him a Donny Hathaway track at our last San Francisco Meet last weekend!

Plus - I get to evangelize for great sound, and write about music for a living.
As Ice T would say: "Im caked out Jack - there's nothin you could do to phaze me"

@Goldendarko - some peeps just let the silly stuff run their lives

I gotcha. Thought he was for real until that part about now that's what I call music!

LOL, OMFG that's hilarious!  :D  If I am ever lucky enough to get parodied by Tari, I'm putting a link to that in my sig.

Home of the Liquid Carbon, Liquid Crimson, Liquid Glass, Liquid Gold and
Liquid Lightning headphone amplifiers... and the upcoming Liquid Spark!

Keep up with your positivism man!  On HF, I'd rather read enthusiasts' enthusiasm than scientist's science....    Might not always agree with your opinions but definitely grateful you spend the time and effort to share.

Many a time I have had tears rolling down my cheeks listening to Donny Hathaway, especially the stuff on 'These Songs For You Live'. The voice of an angel.

I also own a TH900 which sound really good with the Lau but, I can hear a little background noise when music stop (on the SE low-impedance output). I'm quite sensitive to noise and I want to keep my TH900, I will need to try it on the balanced output (need to recable my th900) before considering to sell my Lau.

If you already experience background noise from the SE output, chances are that you should hear even more noise from the Balanced plug simply because the Balanced output is more prowerfull.  At least this is what I experienced with my TH900 connected to my RWA Bellina Pro DAC/AMP: I was hearing slight HISS with SE and more HISS from the Balanced output (my TH-900 is wired with SE & balanced adaptors).

I ended up...selling the RWA

No , this would not be the case - differential balanced amplifier - noise cancellation benefits of the balanced output with quiet background in balanced mode.

..dB

Depends where the noise comes from. Cable borne common mode noise - yep the BAL config will deal with that. Noise from the DAC output stage? Nope. The higher gain could actually make it worse.

It was excellent!

Which is why I said I'm totally down for it.

But - the part about Norah Jones,

well, that was funny too.

Because, as Warren knows - I'm the first to admit that while I worked for the producer of her first two albums (Arif Mardin), I didn't get it - not then, or now!

But, I was proven WAAYY WRONG on that one!! But, he also produced "Wind Beneath My Wings" - which I told him I would NEVER forgive him for!!

Though he was a great man and one of the last great architects of American contemporary music. PLS don't parody that - as he's passed away.

Go for me for sure!

F__, it's a disease!

I was called "sir" tonight as I walked up to a bonfire w/ a bunch of teenagers on the beach!

I was, well, enjoying some fine organic produce - and they said "sorry sir, are we making too much noise?" DAMN I felt old..

But - even after that I had a few cute chicks listening to my headphones (and this time mere Audio-Technica ATH-50x in for review,

but, with Double Helix Molecule Elite - HAAA!! )

and, for the first time, I heard a teenager girl say:

"****, now my Beats are going to sound like s__t"

no matter what ANYBODY says - that felt GREAT!

exactly

some people have experienced some noise on the SE outputs with high impedance cans - but I honestly haven't tried it - as I just used my Cavalli balanced.

I did try my Audio-Texchnica ATH-900X though - of course not high impedance - I don't think - at the request of another Head-Fier - but the noise was faint

and inaudible once the music kicked in...

Reach out to Cavalli.

oh, and I tried some new 4-pin XLR DHC cables on my LAu before I left - 8-wire litz (copper I think, gotta ask Peter - but DAMN)...

I know, jokes galore - but hey, as long as the music sounds sweet to me!
