Recabling KOSS PortaPros for headphone/microphone cell phone use..

Hey Everyone!!

I'm a complete novice when it comes to phones and solder.. but I've been wanting to turn my KOSS PortaPros into a headphone/microphone combo for my cellphone.

I dont neccesarily want to attach a boom mic.. I'd much rather it be the hanging mic that's part of the wire.

Any recommendations for what cables / shrinkwrap / etc that I should be looking for?

Also, as previously mentioned I have zero experience with these kind of things, but I'm pretty sharp, so with some guidance I feel I could bang it out in no time.

Any advice on how I should go about this.. or what not to do.. is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

You could install a 3.5mm jack in you Porta Pro's and then order something like this:

These 3.5mm jacks are easy to work with:

That mod is very easy to do. I've done it loads of times to multiple kinds of headphones. There are 3 tabs on the 3.5mm jack. The long one is the ground, the short goldish colored one is the right signal, and the short silverish colored one is the left signal. replace the stock wires coming off the driver for your hard wired cable with some wire that isn't enameled (hard to solder).
