Seeking a pair of over ear headphones suitable for long listening sessions, for $250 Canadian or less.

Hello everyone,

My last audio related purchase was a pair of Alessandro ms1 headphones. I made this decision based on reviews and recommendations from this website. I was hoping that you guys could assist me in finding a new pair of headphones. I love my ms1's, but I am looking for something a bit more comfortable, that is somewhat more balanced, and something that I can use for long periods of time. The only other requirement I have is that they can be used with an ipod classic without amplification. I suppose the biggest requirement is that I can have these headphones purchased and delivered to a Canadian address for under $250.

I am considering the Audio-Technica ATH AD900x, but it is a bit out of my budget.

Thank you for your help everyone.

You're on the right track.  What do the HD 598, Q 701 and UE 6000 go for in Canada?

That said, headphone comfort is a very individual thing.  Sizing and sensitivities are unique to each person.  We can point you to headphones that are generally considered to be comfortable and mention others that have garnered complaints for being uncomfortable.  However, the only way to know for sure is to wear them yourself for a time equivalent to your longest listening session.

About 300, 250, and 60 to 100 (plus shipping) respectively. I'll look into the Q 701

Does anyone have any thoughts on the HiFiman HE300?

It looks like the Q 701 requires an amp to sound decent sadly.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the HiFiman HE300 or Audio-Technica AT-AD900x?

Which would be a suitable upgrade if I love the sound of my Alessandro ms1's? And will either sound good without amplification?

Thanks again.

900X is an excellent and very efficient can.  With its large sound stage, it is very different from the MS-1.
