New Audio Technica ATH-M50x with Removable Cable - Page 18

I said the Nad Viso was fun sounding as i was referring only to cans that i own. I currently do not own the M50x but have heard both the M50 and M50x and i may get the M50x Blue LE as a cheaper pair of going out cans. I will just use the bass and treble EQ on my FiiO X3 to bring down the bass and treble a bit.

Wow, so there is a difference between the M50 and the M50x (sorry haven't read the last 15 pages, where this might have been discussed already) ? I was under the impression that the M50x was just the M50 with more cable options. Was hoping to get a cheap M50 to start out with, but might have to go with the M50x after all.

M50x has very much less strident treble, causing imaging to be better than the M50 and overall listening experience to be less fatigueing. Soundstage is wider, sound is quite a bit less congested. Bass is tighter, mids are slightly less recessed.

I wonder why the M50x is so much more expensive than the M50 in some countries. Official retail price in my home country, singapore, of the M50x is actually cheaper than the M50. Even the M50x blue LE is just $10 more expensive than the M50. A steal!!

Does anybody know another usage of a 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable? I recently found 3 such cables with gold plated jacks among my father's treasure trove of high quality audio cables and am now wondering what they are for, other than for use in headphones.

The pads are softer > less highs + more bass

You mean less treble bump at 10kHz, which the ATH-M50 had loads of, and with this greatly reduced in M50x, the treble is less strident, fatigueing and more clean sounding resulting in better imaging

the makers at audio technica said there is absolutely no difference in the two…..not sure

Not true. Almost 100% of reviewers said they are different in sound. Most notably tyll at innerfidelity. I myself have heard the ATH-M50x and it is different from the ATH-M50.

i saw the same thing as you but i hear some many people say otherwise, if the sound is different  i wonder why audio technica is denying it? rather than say something like they REFINED THE SOUND  or something along those lines, it would make it more marketable. not that the headphones aren't a success already but still why hide something like that??

i would like to know as well

Me too. What i know is that, i heard it and it sounds so much better now, and both frequency response graph measurements from innerfidelity and headroom show differences from the ATH-M50. Most notably is the greatly reduced 10kHz peak and also because of this, the ATH-M50x treble sounds very much less strident and imaging overall has been improved.

Greetings all, another newbie to the forum who benefitted from all your collective expertise.  I won't bore you with the history except to say that when it was time to replace my beloved 20 yr. old phones, I was heavily dependent on reviews and this board.  I settled on the M50x and discovered that Amazon has them at $169 including a Fiio e6!  It's impossible to know why they are doing this or how long it will last but snatch it while you can!

My account is too green to post a link so the Amazon seller is Amazing Deals Online.
