So to be a bit more clear, I want something with good soundstage, decent clarity and detail, and neutral sound would be preferred (I'm ok with some heavy bass though). I also would like it to be quite comfortable. What doesn't matter to me is whether it's open or closed back, what type of cable it has, or how good the isolation is. I have a separate mic so I don't need a built in one.

Hi,

You should consider Sennheiser HD558:

Thanks :) I've been considering the hd 555, are these similar? Better?

HD555 were replaced by HD558 and HD595 by HD598.

Ah ok, and would you recommend the foam mod? Or too risky?

Risky? No. The mod is pretty simple, you can find tutorials on youtube, not much care is required, just a little.

Anyway I would use them a good amount of time (20 or 30hs) without modding them, after that, if I don't feel great about how they sound I would try the foam mod.

If you mod, you kiss your warranty good-bye.

Alright thanks guys :)

Would the HD558 be recommended over the Creative Aurvana Live? (ignoring price)

Yes--unless you need a closed can or one that provides a short cable.
