Ok I used the smallest size of Sony ear bud replacement I had and it was the noise cancelling version. I pulled out all of the dampening materials and then cut the outside portion.
I then pushed the remaining into the Bose ear buds. They seem to stay in pretty well but I do notice a little play if you don't seat them onto the xba4.
I am in no way a professional so take my findings with care. I think they sound a little more spacious than with the standard ear buds. I'm hearing a little more bass but it's not necessarily the best controlled bass. I still need to listen way more before finding out if this is for me. I can say that they feel comfortable and stay in place about 100% better. I'm going to listen to them in more detail tomorrow. Let me know if interested, I probably won't post more unless someone wants specifics. I still don't understand my ears enough to make solid recommendations on mods.
Also on a side note you do get two pairs for about 10 dollars of the Bose ear buds. Make sure they are the right size for you, wrong size and you will end up with pain.
