LF Recommendations - Over-Ear Headphones, Bass Heavy, for Trance/Tech Music <$500

Hello all,

I listen to two styles of music:

1) Trance/uplifting trance/any variation of trance (punchy bass)

2) Tech house/deep house/ minimal (requires loud bass)

So to keep in short, I'm looking for an over-ear headphone that has quality/loud bass, aesthetic look, and does not require a amp. Price range up to $500.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Open or closed headphones?

On the open department: hifiman he-400 for godly bass quality. (bass extends to 30 hz) It's not technically bass heavy, but can really deliver when called for it. There's also the Philips x1, which is a legitimate basshead can (at least to me). Also looks incredible and way below your budget!

As for closed headphones... v-moda m100 or maybe ultrasones.

Thanks for the recommendations! I had to google the difference between open and closed. Seems to me that closed are better for blocking out surrounding noises, whereas open let sounds pass through. How much of a difference does this make? I understand that open should sound "better' than closed, but at the same time, I don't want to hear any background noise with this purchase. I really want to be immersed in the sounds...

Open headphones will leak sound and let sound come in from the outside. They should only be used indoors or private areas.

Closed headphones will not leak sound out and will block external noises. These are what you want if you plan to go outside with them.

If you're just going to use your headphones indoors, i suggest open headphones. Unless there's a lot of noises coming from inside your house.
