Arcam Diva CD72

Hey,

I was initially considering buying a Denon 370 or a Cambridge Audio D500. Recently, however, the Arcam cdp has caught my eye. Anyone know if it's worth the extra dough?

I'm using HD580s with a Creek OBH-11, currently hooked up to a Sony portable.

I think I need a CDP upgrade I'm looking at anything in the sub 1000 dollar range.

I auditioned the Diva72 a few months back. It was hooked up to an Arcam integrated powering Paradigm Studio 100s. Build seemed decent and the transport was quiet. Had loads of detail, but like most players/setups it was a little bright for me. I ended up getting the nOrh CD-1.

I'm assuming that with some burn in it would become less bright...

Arcam - Bright ? Huh?

If anything, arcam stuff has never been discrible as bright, their equipment are usually warm and smooth.

Back to the quailty of the CD72, it's worth every penny. soundstage, detail, etc, they are very good for the money. I would say it's one of the best CD player under $1000.

My experience with the CD72 is closer to raymondlin's. The CD72 was quite smooth-sounding with great bass extension. Almost bought it -- this close. But I'm glad I went with the Sony SCD-C333ES instead, as I find its redbook CD performance at least the equal of the Arcam (better if I take the time to find the filter setting that works best for the particular CD I'm playing), and also plays SACD.

But in the sub-$1000 range, the Arcam is one of the best I heard.

I managed to find one US dealer that sells the Arcam online for $799 dollars.

Anyone have any experience with these guys? And does $799 seem right...

All the dealers I found online are in the UK and do not sell online..

$800 is a bit over price, it's retail at £400 over here in the UK, works out at about $564. So $800 is way over price, I would try to find one at around $600.

Yeah, I thought so too...

http://www.audiolab.com, however, is selling them for $679.00. This seems more reasonable.

I think $679 is still expensive, If I was i nthe market for a new CD player. I would wait a few months for the multi channel SDCD player from sony in a few months time, it's going to be retail at £350/$500.
