Question about Audio Technica ATH-AD700 w/ Boom Mic

TLDR; see bottom of post

Hello all, I'm rather new to this so here goes...

I am currently planning to apply FraGTaLiTy's boom mic mod to my AD700's once the Labtec LVA-7330 Mic and other materials I've ordered arrive. However, from what I've read around these forums and a couple of others is that in order for me to be able to control chat volume on consoles (mainly the Xbox) I'll need to have the Astro MixAmp but that's not something I really want to put any extra $$$ into if I don't have to as I already own the TB EarForce DSS. It came with my PX21's and they have recently crapped out. At just over a year old.

I've also read about the SteelSeries Spectrum Audio Mixer but saw some forum posts on Xim3 saying that it interferes with how the DSS functions. Such as a much louder bass, so much so it tends to drown out the sounds most FPS gamers would like to hear (that's mainly what I'm using my headphones for). Footsteps, distant gunfire, etc. Anything bass related isn't as clear (not sure if that's the right word to use) as it could be when used with the Spectrum apparently. As well as some degradation in sound quality.

Then I came across another post that suggested a setup  that could control chat volume with any headset and still take advantage of the DSS:

- Turtle Beach talk-back cable with inline chat volume and mic mute function:

- 3.5mm Female to 2.5mm Male adapter

- 2.5mm Female to 2.5mm Female extender cable

TLDR STARTS HERE

Basically the setup goes Labtec LVA-7330 ---> 3.5mm Female to 2.5mm Male adapter ---> 2.5mm Female to 2.5mm Female extender cable ---> Turtle Beach talk-back cable with inline chat volume and mic mute function ---> Xbox 360 Wireless Controller.

With ATH-AD700 ---> EarForce DSS ---> Xbox 360 via optical port. My Xbox is to connected to my Television via HDMI if that matters.

What I want to know is, will this work? Preferably before I decide to spend money on all the other materials I would need. The person who posted this suggested setup was not given an answer as to whether or not this would work. It seemed like their post was dismissed by the other users in my opinion.

Bump again.

Seems every time I edit my first post the whole thread has to re-approved due to some hyperlinks BS. Which seems to completely remove my thread and prevent it from being viewed by anyone. Really, it is BS when someone has to confirm the same thread over and over again when all I'm doing is making minor, insignificant changes due to O.C.D.

Guess I have spammers and bots to thank for that...?

Anyway... If I don't get an answer soon I guess I'll just go ahead and try it myself. If I don't win that Astro Mixamp 5.8 that is...
