Grado SR80 Recable Question

I've had my Grado SR-80s for a number of years now and recently they stopped working. I suspected one of the wires had come disconnected from the plug. 

 

I replaced the original with a Neutrik NTP3RC plug. The left channel was still dead and the right channel worked a bit but when I moved the headphone cord around it cut in and out. I believe that something in the headphone cord itself is busted. 

I took everything apart including removing all existing wire from within the headphone cups themselves. 

 

With that said I have two questions. 

 

1. Is there any testing I can do on each headphone to validate that it functions properly before ordering new wire? 

2. Does any one recommend a specific website and have a bill of materials I could use as the basis for an order? It would be extremely helpful if one supplier had all the parts.

You cant really verify that the drivers are good until you have the headphones apart. 

 

That being said, it is incredibly rare for drivers to "just die" and significantly more common for cables to break. 

 

Drivers do suffer premature death due to various abuses (pulling the cables out mostly) but that does not sound like the case here.

Do you have any recommendations on which supplier I can use to order parts from?

It would be really helpful to be able to source everything (heat shrink, cable, nylon sleeving, etc) from one supplier.

I've taken a look at markertek and I can't find everything there. It looks like I can get most materials at Take Five Audio but since it's based in Canada the shipping is expensive to the U.S.
