Yeah, at that $380 price point they better have something special. I would love these to have the spl of the hd25 without the bass distortion. Hd25 was also sibilant at higher levels. I am a dj and have been spinning for the past 15 years. I actually do a tremendous amount of mixing in my headphones. As a dj, good headphones are an invaluable piece of equipment and a very personal asset.

These are the first Sennheisers that I've had interest in pre-release, let's see how it turns out provided the bass is sufficient for my basshead needs.

I'm stalking sellers and seeing when they are sale. Late January is the estimated time. Really, really interested in these!

Ditto.  Who are you hearing will carry them?  Amazon I'd guess.

I am actually not sure. Just searching on Google, etc...however, I will probably buy from an authorized retailer.

(Btw, I dig the headphones you own.)

Thanks.  Me too............sold the M100 today and probably getting one of these new Senns to take its' place.  Just getting bored.............wanted a change...............tho the top 5 are going nowhere.

I wasn't a fan of the M100's either. I just picked up the LCD2.2's a few months back on the Black Friday Deal. Next on the HIFI list may be the TH900's, but will need to buy an amp before anything. I'm hoping the HD8 can deliver "that sound" I so crave in a DJ Headphone.

you have a basshead selection of headphones. You would really like the yamaha hph mt220, not over the top bass but very punch and amazing balance with some of the best attack and transient response. My favorite closed hp to date. amp picky though. If the hd8 has the soundstage of these yamahas I will definitly check them out. When is the official US release date.

I've never heard about those Yamahas, you've got me interested. Wonder if it's an upgrade to Q40. I'm looking for headphones with boosted bass (sub & midbass) but as evenly as possible mid & highrange and it seems to be extremely difficult to find something of basshead level but with good balance in the rest of the range no matter cost.

I also prefer punchy/impactful bass over slow/rumbly subbass focused bass.

I don't know if they are bass head level but they have better and slightly more bass than these: momentum, akg k545, sony mdr 7520 , he400, mad dogs,

The bass didn't leave me unsatisfied when taking of the basshead JVC DX700's(dx1000 little brother) and sounded almost as loud. They have the best balance of the above mentioned apart from the mdr 7520 with excellent sound quality. The mids arent transparent until after burn in and they need to be paired with a good amp as fiio products make them sound a little less exciting like they help the punch but hold them back. The soundstage is better than all of the above as well except for the he400 and dx700. I think the bass will fit your needs. It has less of a midbass focus than a sub bass focus and is pretty even there. I use alpha pads on mine and it helps the bass even more. Its not a slow bass. It is more textured than the k545 bass but slightly less than the 7520 and on par but less bloated than the dx700.

Worth a try for sure.  The only thing I am worried about the hd8 is the soundstage. I am pretty confident the rest will be good.

Thank you fellow Oregonian for the info. I think member gelocks had them, I'll have to ping him.

This application is for portable amp duty for working out driven by an Arrow 3G. All my other stuff goes thru vintage amps.

yeah he kept them for a while and doesn't have them for sale so that says a lot.

A russian site had some measurement of it, looks pretty good for the price. Just not sure if the green or yellow line is more relevant, the yellow would make it slightly midbass skewed while the green is slightly subbass skewed. The yellow line characteristic would be more suitable/wanted for me as the digiZoid amp is slightly subbass skewed and the yellow line peaks at like 10dB boost which is roughly whereabouts I'm looking for (8~10dB boost depending on quality etc)

Will wait to see how these Sennheisers turns out first.

wow I have been wanting to see that. thanks that confirms my listening impressions. I am not far off. I would wait if I were you too especially since it is a new product coming out. Thats a lot more exciting. I don't think yamaha marketed these very well at all considering their value and quality.

Here's a video of Sennheiser product manager, Ivan Kuan, talking about the new DJ headphones.
