Mine is finally been shipped from Audiophonics in France. I have found the LCD2 underwhelming from the D100 MKII so expecting great things from balanced operation.

LCD2 are my next buy.

Your right the D100 headphone amp is a little weak but i really like the dac part gives a lot of options for a cheap price.

I have the Alpha Dogs so i wanted to try the "Balance".

Had you been in the Europe I could have sold you my LCD. Send me a PM if you're still interested.

The A28, is a dissapointment. Came out the box with tiny paint chips on the front and back and the volumeknob's innerwork is slightly bend which results in a weird rotation. Reason enough to send it back. As far as the sound goes, I realise things can change but at 4-5 hours I remain to find the LCD uninteresting even from balanced operation. I really think it's just it's signature I am not digging. It doesn't grab me. The TH-600 sounds noticeably ''better'' on the D100 amp section. Livelier is the word. From the A28 single ended, there's rolled off treble which can actually be a good thing as TH-600 gets a little hot up in the highs but bass is subdued and flat when comparing the two. I also clearly perceive a more extended bass response from the D100. The A28 exterior is really nice compared to the D100 but how things are looking right now, this baby is going to be refunded.

Wow, you somehow got a dud for sure.... send that thing back and try again. There's no way to get a good impression of the device when you have damage like that. Even if you try to be objective and judge purely on sound, in the back of your mind you are unhappy with it and know it needs to be returned. Personally, I couldn't separate that and judge it on pure SQ alone.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I will just go for a refund nevertheless and put the money elsewhere. A used Matrix Quattro DAC (thanks for the review) from the FS forum is with me shortly so no toy shortage yet :D

I'm going save to get that DAC or the Yulong DA8.

Five days and my A28 is at my house can't wait to get home.:beerchug:

just got my A28 and have been listening to some tracks on a few different phones. some initial thoughts...

- listening to balanced grado hf2, balanced d7000 (stock), and balanced alpha dogs

- all tracks are being downsampled to 16/48 via audirvana plus since i'm without a DAC at the moment and only have a prototype gamma 1

so far, finding the A28 to be quite bright out of the balanced port. using a balanced -> 1/4" adapter on the grado hf2, i like the sound out of the LOW SE port better.

the A28 is revealing just how limited my DAC is...downsampling DSD and 24/192 FLAC files to 16/48 doesn't help. so far, i've liked the A28/hf2 combo the best of the three cans. i haven't listened to the grados in ages and even with the limited source, these cans are very very engaging.

certainly, more thoughts to come later. i got this A28 used from another member here and it looks brand  new. i like the size, too. it's very well built...now, what DAC should i pick up? any suggestions?

And how is the Alpha Dog (or any other hp) from it compared to the D100?

Don't get me wrong I like the D100 actually the Headphone part not really that bad for the price.

Other folks have said all the samethings i found out about it.

If you can't afford one of the $1000 DAC out there i would recommend the D100 never had issue with PC and I'm using "Opticle" plus "Coaxel" with DX50.

Agree. I like the D100 a lot too. What I meant is, did you find any obvious differences between your D100 build-in amp and A28 with your headphones?

To put it simple the D100 has a warm sound and works great with Alpha Dogs and HD650.

The first thing i notice with the A28 compared to the D100 is both phones mention above is its "Bright" and "Clear".

Sometimes too bright but i love the sq.

Using DX50 Coaxel and Optical on PC.
