The Senheiser HD558 should be just as good as the PC360 and for less cash.

So I'm assuming you have not bought the sound card or the headphones?

What is your over all budget for the audio setup?

I would try getting the Beyer Dynamic DT 990, find a Clip on or mic with a stand [I use a cheap $10 Mike that sits 7 inches in front of me and it works fine]

as well as the Astro Mix Amp, total budget for that should be under $400, adn the DT 990 are very nice for gaming :3 not to mention uber comfy

DO NOT get the 600 ohm DT 990, it's a waste of money, the DT 990 Pro 250 Ohm unit is $100 cheaper  NEW and would work nicely with the Mix Ampe

Asus Xonar DX or D1 sound card, used $60

Schiit Magni headphone amplifier, $99

(The DX or D1/Magni combo should work with any headphone you might get)

Audio Technica ATH-A900X headphones, $220

with Hifiman Velour ear pads, $10

or

AKG K612 Pro headphones, $150-$200

You could get a Sound Blaster Z sound card, $85, with some used AKG K612 Pro headphones, $150

So for around $235+shipping, you would have a fairly decent gaming and music setup.

You don't think Dt990 600 ohm is worth $250?

How would you compare the akg 701 to the ad 900x and 612? I haven't heard of the 612 yet.

nope, the 250 ohm is easier to use with varied sources, and is cheaper. The 600 ohm is only worth buying if you plan to use it with a high powered amped, like a balanced amp or a OTL tube with a lot of volts

for a new member, I think the DT 990 600 ohm is in no way worth buying, as the sound is on par with the 250 ohm verision.

Some have described the AKG K7XX series having an oval surround sound, while the K612Pro was described as more like a circle.

I'm not sure I could offer an informed opinion on which is better for gaming, but the K612 is cheaper.
