Help with my music setup ?

Hey there so I've got the Audioengine A2 powered bookshelf speakers and a powered sub (Klipsch Sub-12HG Series 12-Inch 300-Watt Subwoofer ) connected to it via the RCA Input on the audioengine.....They work fine together on my desktop HOWEVER I don't like the fact that I can't turn up the volume on it much as the audioengine bookshelf speakers will sound distorted since bass is coming through it as well....What can I use to have it play mids and treble only and be able to adjust the bass for the sub only...I have very limited knowledge when it comes to music but I know I would need a some sort of preamp that will be able to work with powered speakers....Any suggestions?

Whatever digital-to-analog-converter (dac) or amplifier (or pre-amp) you have the speakers and subwoofer connected between the audio source, there should be a seperate subwoofer and regular bass/treble knob settings on the software, within the hardware settings lcd program screen, or physical hardware knobs designated by what they control. If you do not have any of these three settings options, you will have to upgrade to audio equipment with at least one of these features to change the frequency levels of the subwoofer and speakers seperately. Take your time in finding these settings or finding stuff that will do this, because what you are asking for is not typical and usually expensive to find and fix.

K thanks a lot...it's all connected via one 3.5 mm cable to the soundcard at the back of the pc but u gave me and idea....I've read that u can connect them separately cuz my soundcard has a few ports maybe I can connect the audioengine to the main green 3.5mm jack and the sub to one of the others
