What difference should I expect? AK120->RWAK120 + SE846 - Page 2

post #16 of 22
Interesting reading. I've been listening all day to the AK120 and SE846 and while it does certain things beautifully I feel that vocals sound a little distant - "sucked out". I'm not sure that the AK120 is a great DAP for these IEMs and am wondering what would yield the greatest improvement, the RWA mod or the addition of an external amp specifically designed for IEMs.

Should be 8x3 which is 24. Where are you getting 27 from?

I'm not sure who you're talking to but I think the 27 probably comes from 9x3.

I thought you had to times the output impedance by 8.

A sincere "thank you" for providing the graphs for the SE 846.  It's very revealing.  Just a few questions:

It's shocking the frequency response drops so sharply after 10K!  I thought these amazing IEM go out (in frequency) to 20khz or greater?

Whats the  sense of a 20khz frequency response if your down from neutral (0db)  30 or more DB's at 16khz.  Your not going to hear it anyway?

Speedracer1 (aka) Tom

I wouldn't worry about it too much if it sounds good. No one has come up with what a perfect IEM graph should look like (lots of debate) but rising below 100 and rolling treble seems to sound the most correct to most. Measurements vary as well so all need to be taken with a grain. The question is more about how much.

So, can anyone give info on the RWAK120 without the S or B mods vs stock?

The ak120 with se846 sounded annoing to my ears the highs were shreaking, also like a piercing sound. After spending all that money to have a mismatched combination did not make sense. The bass was over done or muddied and just not accurate. The output from the ak120 is at 3.3 ohms and the se846 at 9 ohms . After spending all that money to have a mismatched combination did not make sense. The red wine mod for my ak120 sounded amazing, smooth highs and mids the bass was accurate like I'm accustom to hearing. The rwak120 mod is definitely worth it

I never heard it before, but the Rwak120b and shures were magical together. I loved that combination. Believe it or not, Fiio X3 and Shures Se846 was also magical. One of the most fun pairings I've heard. Noise floor was a bit higher, but damn is that a fun combo.
