On a personal note and to totally contradict my last statement, I ran a Gungnir (next step up from the Bifrost) in my system and found it too harsh/aggressive (especially with the HD800), so I tend to stay away from Schiit DAC's. I run a Peachtree Dac-It in my systems and find it pretty neutral...Neither too laid back, nor too aggressive, just right. And it was cheap too. YMMV, that was just my personal findings with it.

The Peachtree IDAC is on my short list. A friend has one in his home stereo setup and it sounded good to me,  I have a modi on the  way so ill see if it does what i expect it should.  Im happy with my sound as far as detail, bright, dark etc... i just want to smooth out the edgyness i have from the computer soundcard

Just joined here recently.  Found this site which has been interesting to say the least.  I have owned high end audio equipment going back to the 70's.  Apt corp. , Holman, Carver, Macintosh to name some.  Anyway I have HD 650 driven by ALO Pan Am dac/amp.  Currently using Decibel software.  This combo to me has incredible sound and has reinvigorated my interest in music. Of course there is better equip. and there always will be something better,  but I am thrilled with the sound I am getting.

I just want to say that I've really enjoyed this thread. I find myself agreeing with a lot of what has been said here - even agreeing with contradictory points of view! In the end, I think it comes down to your budget and personal preference. It's good to read what other people think and to take that into consideration but if you're pleased with what you're hearing, be happy and enjoy the music! Something better will come along later giving you the opportunity to upgrade.... If you're not enjoying the music, what's the point?
