What gaming sources are these headphones going to be used with?

Beyer DT770.DT880, DT990, Premium or Pro all use the same size ear pads, so the cans, for all practical purposes are the same size.

My two cents, for best all around audio quality and use.

DT880 Premium 600-Ohm headphones (buy used).

DT880 Pro 250-ohm is almost as good as the 600-Ohm version.

and get a Audio-GD NFB-15.32 external DAC/Amp, $255+shipping.

Hey thanks for the reply! :)

I will clear something up!  I was asking if the size of the Sennheiser's and Beyer's were the same size, not the different ohms versions for the 880's.

It's coming to the point where I'm believing Socrates' quote:  "The more I learn, the more I learn how little I know", haha.

As I continue to attempt to figure out what I should get, I'm inclined for you guys to simply point me in the direction.  Open back or Semi?  250 ohms or 600 ohms?  What Amp or setup that doesn't get too complicated?

You guys have been so patient with me, I cannot appreciate it enough.  Lots to learn.

After doing some more research; I think I'll be going with the Semi-open 880's at 250 ohms.

Now to figure out an amp that's not too complicated.

I see a lot of Schiit items on their website; however I'm not sure whether a tube amp or a regular (?) amp would make the difference.

Just get the Schiit Magni and your good to go. They'll improve your HD598 also.

Can it go up to 250 ohms?  Would it be a waste to get the Asgard 2 for example?

The Magni will do the job.  It will even drive the HE 500.

The Asgard 2 provides more features (e.g. high/low gain & ability to drive speakers) and better performance (e.g. lower distortion.).

I notice there are RCA jacks on the back.  I of course don't have that on my computer, so I'm assuming I have to place an adapter to change it from the RCA to 3.5mm.

My thought process is; I have speakers already plugged into the back where my new amp would have to be plugged in.  Was there another way?

Edit; oh derp.  I could just use the jack on the front of the computer.

On another note, you said lower distortion for the Asgard.  Would I expect some hissing or slight distortion by chance?  Or would that be only with super high end/ohms headphones?

I think I found a good deal for the 600 ohms version.  Will the Schiit Magni be enough?
