Need help choosing between 3 dacs

Hello Head-Fi, first post here and I need some help choosing between 3 DACs.

Cambridge DAC magic plus

Nuforce Icon HDP

and the NAD 1050

The main task of the DAC will be to feed a Cambridge Azur 550a amp, receiving inputs from a macbook pro, apple TV, and a CD player.

At the moment I have an old(ish) pair of Sennheiser hd555s and am looking to upgrade to a pair of hd600s or 650s in the next couple of months, so I like the idea of these three DACs because of the headphone amp and the pre-amp stage will be useful as well down the track (the Azur550a is on loan and will have to be returned at the end of this year - I may just replace it with a power amp).

I'd like to get a product that can do those three things, because of budget limitations buying separates this year would be out of the question.

I listen to a vast variety of music from rock to jazz to electronica to psy-trance.

thanks in advance.

If you watch videos and movies more than music, go with the cambridge audio dac magic plus. You listen to music more along various recording mediums, go with the nad 1050. The nuforce hdp is more for computer-related tasking and it looks like you are more for entertainment.

I probably watch more more movies and tv, but certainly care much more about sound quality with music, especially I think the headphone amp, as my loudspeakers are powerful, but not really audiophile quality and I will be investing in good cans soon. Thanks.

You are talking about getting the cambridge audio dac magic plus, right? The dac magic plus already has a great headphone jack and is more versatile than the NAD. The NAD is more for versatile monitor, editing, and leisure listening use, andas much as you want to feel more professional, it will move away from your personal intended uses.

Well, the nad d1050 does have balanced xlr outputs and provides a better value for music quality, but the dac magic plus is still more versatile for all the sources you have. If you are getting expensive cans that will use the xlr outputs, then nad it is. If not, you'll do best with the dac magic plus, which you might find on sale somewhere as well.

Yeah, unless you are a real Mr. Fix-It kind of person, it is best to have your stuff from the same company, because all of the stuff is designed similarly. You're welcome and enjoy your stuff.
