Need Recommendation for Dac/Amp for Closed Headphone mainly B&W P7s and possibly a open headphone in the future.

Hi,

I am a beginner and I am really enjoying the P7s a lot. Even though my source is just the Nexus 5, I still really enjoy these phones. I would like to however take it one step further with dac/amp combo for home use on my desktop/laptop. I was looking into either Schiit's M&M, Schiit's Vali and Modi (I heard it might be not so great with my low impedance P7s though) or fiio e17/e18. My budget is about $250 and was wondering is there another setup that i can look into at this price range? I'd like to gather all the info before I make this leap as i won't be upgrading for awhile. I listen to all genre's of music even a little country. To name a few, City in color, Richard marx, yiruma, 2bic, Sara Bareilles and etc. Your help is much appreciated.

If you are considering an open-backed can, you'll have to be specific on why you would want one, because the p7s are at the top on portables. Considering you have a portable, the fiio e17 would be better than the e18 because of the lcd screen, though anyone can object with a very good reason. The Schiit M+M combo is excessive for the p7 alone and will only need consideration when you can get a good open-backed can.

I thought that it would be beneficial when listening to music on my laptop to have a setup. But if I don't need one for the p7s guess its good news for the wallet. biggrin.gif
