...
Just notice something with pop song mostly.. snare are a bit proheminent and take my attention over vocals .. just think its a bit too much

Dont know if i need to blame the headphone or my mind but i ll see ... or maybe the amp is not powerfull enought so the emphase is even more on high mids. ..

Yes, I feel that there's a bit of emphasis in the frequency range that includes snares, and some cymbals.  It's not a problem with the amp, it's a signature of the headphone.  It's not bad but compared to some others there is, I think, a bit of a "spike" there.

I've notice that if it change from high gain to low gain on my fiio x5, the spike seems to be less noticiable... that why i thought that amp could be responsible but it s always a matter of association i guess ()

on another subject im on a shopping spree and looking around for a portable amp, to associate with the x5, ideally i would like something that fit the 400i and my q701 too not necessery portable .. so o2 / fiio e12 ...

I'm looking to get back into the portable game with these headphones since they are so efficient. Anybody have any recommendations of good portable amps that work well with these cans?

I've read that the Fiio stuff has narrow soundstages. Those might not work so well with the HE-400i.

I used the Fiio E12 to run the HE-400i demo set I had, and it sounded just fine. The soundstage was adequate and the sound was clear and loud enough. I never Increased the volume past the 12 a clock setting and I used the high gain setting.

Schiit is releasing their new Fulla portable dac/amp soon. May be something to look at.

Well, that's something else to look at :p  I was actually thinking about scooping up a Magni-Modi combo :p  But depending on how much output the Fulla will put out, that might be a good alternative (hopefully 500 mW+ :p That's a pipe dream though for a portable amp :p).

Now that many of u have listened to the 400i for a extended period of time.. is your opinion of the 400i better or worse?

For me, better and better.  The efficiency of them is amazing.  I cannot believer I am drivining a planar with the HP out of my Toshiba laptop.  True, more power is more enjoyable, but it works in a pinch.

And the bass is really quite good!
