Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion - Page 8

After spending a considerable amount of quality time with the he4, I have NO reservation about the quality and performance potential of single sided implementations.

Subbed! I just have one request for the OP if it's not too much to ask, I wish the 'he-400i' on the title of this thread to be 'HE-400i' for it to become somewhat legit or official thread. I'll edit and remove this request on my post once it is edited. Thanks!! :D

Go on MattTCG. I've read the other reviews but wonder if the "driver" approach is as noticeable. I definately got a good sense of 'whoa' when I first switched from dynamic to planar. The new level of separation and bass texture was immediately apparent.

For HE400i's to be the "new HE500s" (as Peter the Hifiman rep has noted in the other thread), they will need a lush bloomed midrange most of all, that is one characteristic that has set the 500s apart from all other Hifiman cans.

I have high anticipation and expectation for this hp. I'm hoping that the signature is close to the he500 and the comfort seems already to be understood as greatly improved. Can't wait for this to release. Still hoping for a pre-order with a discount.

Wasn't there a pre-order discount for the he400? Can't recall.

50 bucks I think.

I am not sure I would be willing to be a first adopter given that the HE-400s were revised a number of times. Did Hifiman replace models that shipped with bad drivers?

The had production problems with the first run. Then later they tried a driver revision that went south. The models before and after were fine. But your point doesn't go unnoticed nor is it unfounded.

Thanks MattTCG - Just sayin'. A lot of purchases I've made in the last few years have gone to warranty repairs, which has damaged my trust in general. Cellphones, stereos, headphone cables, computers - can't trust anything these days.

Hifiman will be truly "high end" to me when they are willing to do a 3 year warranty or longer / or demonstrate a commitment to replacing bad drivers / bad cables (whether manufactured or design-flawed). I have a vague sense that their headphone cables are 'flawed' because the twisting force prematurely shreds the jacket off. I get that shipping costs must be a B****, but a little love goes a long way in my world.

I'd love an early adopter discount, but its worth it to not get saddled with early-adopter problems.

^^ I know that some of the he400 shipped with a three year warranty card and some didn't. Regardless, anytime you build and sell a product, especially a high end hp, you always always stand behind it, period...withstanding clear cases of abuse/customer modification. Stand behind your product, make your customers happy and churn out quality products. It's a simply formula for success really.
