Yes, they are closed and they do have one small bass port.
No, they are not a Beyer. They do have some Beyer components but IMO they sound much better than any Beyer I have owned or heard.
What??? How are you brother?

Are they a true closed back ? They have bass ports. Also are they basically a Beyerdynamic t1 upgraded with a Mcintosh logo ?

Thanks for the sonics assessment.  That makes the MHP 1000 a candidate not so much for my LinUX box's ASUS® STX as for a recently-acquired and -installed Peavey® 24FX recording/live sound console, which has a variable-gain headphone amplifier in the Control Room section - my digs have a rehearsal studio in the configuration process.

They are boomier then a Beyer. Much boomier.  While the Beyers respond well to tube amps these respond better to solid state.

I am not a basshead and I personally don't think the MHP1000 are boomy. I actually think they benefit from a good OCC copper cable.
Obviously them match perfect wit the MHA100 but they also sound great out of my WA5-LE.

Another member of the "not boomy for me" club. Have used them with an MHA100, a Woo WA6 (stock tubes), and a Bel Canto DAC1.7. Of course they sound a little different with each one, but never boomy.

Definitely not bass shy but I agree, not a boomy set of cans.

I know you guys change your gear from time to time as the constant search for (ever) higher end is a part of this hobby & fun. So surely some of you wants to sell your McIntosh MHP1000 headphones to buy something fresh for yourself.. Then please just let me know. I would buy MHP1000 from you if it is in absolutely like-new condition. You know just like you I am a perfectionist too. BTW My name is Paul. I am in Seattle, WA (with cash ready to send you =0).

If you want "like new" why not just buy new? No one sells them at $2000 anymore

Sorry, but as for me, I'm a collector. And my MHP1000's are an important part of the collection. (Note my avatar.)

Anyone else?

being a collector myself (of useless military intiques) I perfectly uderstand how much you put into that word "collection" but we are all different and for some including me and many others it is just a gear for everyday use cannot call it collection
