Sound wise they are very good, Impactful bass, nice clear mids and laid back treble.

Yes the fit is annoying, i suggest using sony hybrids and what works for me is to rotate the iem until you find them inserting correctly, for me that's with cable pointing towards my eyes before twisting to behind the ear

Yeah I'll try that and maybe later on I'll look at some other tips. ATM the Complys work fine for me.

If you want to get over the fit issue, you can do this comfort mod that I did recently. The whole idea is to put a spacer between the tips and outer shell of IM50/70s so comfort does greatly improve. At least that's what I've felt after I tried it.

I've used Philips 3590 small tips in this mod which didn't fit my ear cannal but you can use other tips which fits the nozzle. It is also very easy to try and you can even use double flange tips without comfort issues.;)

I can start a new thread about tips and some mods but I haven't decided yet.

Thanks and heads up for the mod! My IM50 fits and isolate so much better now. smily_headphones1.gif

Sorry for a stupid question, but is the whole idea of this mod to add a little spacer so that an eartip extends farther?  I might have to try it with my IM03, though I'm happy with UE900 eartip fitment on it.

Also, I remember reading "eartip rolling", is that the same thing or a different mod?

AFAIK Eartip rolling is just using different tips, just like you have tube rolling, opamp rolling and pad rolling.

A common sense, everybody does that :)  I guess now I will know the next times it comes up in the reply.  Thanks!

I'm glad you liked the mod.:beerchug: If you want to take your IM50 one step further, remove the original filters and put some RE0 filters on them.;)

Yes, exactly! The whole idea behind this mod is to make it more comfortable and freedom to use other tips. Eartip rolling is using different tips until you find the best one for you.

Exactly what I did! smily_headphones1.gif Sounded clearer with better fit and isolation. But with burn in the bass seemed to tame down a lot. Isn't as punchy and low anymore.

The IM50 sounds great with the following:

Ozkan's tip mod using Radio Shack Auvio hybrid tips, shifted so the end of the plastic tube lines up with the end of the tip

Ozkan's suggestion to remove the filter

Viper4Android app using the ATH-IM70 DDC profile

40 hours of burn in

When I first received them, I wasn't impressed and thought they sounded terrible. But now they're great.

So when I read Ozkan's post about the mod I thought it wouldn't work. But I had a few spare minutes just now so I decided to try it and WOW! These things actually fit decently now. I couldn't see how putting a spacer on could help but it certainly did. Defo recommend it. Here are my IM50s now:

I'm using the factory comply tips and those little black rings are the spacers. I made them from the stock large tips which I'll never really use.

Thanks for sharing your opinions about the mod. Actually the stock filter has more dense surface than RE0/400 filters and more comparable to unfiltered IM50/70s so that's why I preferred RE0/400 filters.

Please share more impressions about sound differences before and after this mod. ;)

I'm really happy to hear that it helped.:beerchug: I would be grateful if you share your impressions about how this mod affected the sound.

About the sound quality:

To me personally there wasn't a huge difference in sound but the mod definitely helped. Basically I can get a better seal now(and get this seal more consistently) meaning there is more bass presence(but in a good way; without it the bass is literally nonexistent), more isolation and clearer mids and trebles. All the little things really do add up, these sound much better when they actually seal properly.

How does the IM50 compare to the EPH-100 or FXD80 as i have a pair coming my way.
The EPHs have clearer mids, more sparkly trebles and better fit. IMHO the only thing that's better on the the IM50 is the bass impact, but EPHs have better bass clarity AND decent impact too. IM50s are decent but the EPH are clearly better, for good reason.
