If you like how the stock cable sounds when paired with your IEM then you should stick with them if you gonna replace them.

Sometimes a so-called upgrade cable may affect your sound signature in a way that you may not enjoy. I have demoed my customs with really pricey cables and not so pricey ones and ended up buying the cheaper ones simply because they sounded better and I saved $ in the process. :)

I agree different cables aren't necessarily better-sounding but the stock cable is simply not durable enough for prolonged use. There's cheaper IEMs with cables that don't stiffen over time and ultimately break at that point.

You can probably fix it with a new cable, as long as the IEM and their built-in pins are intact it's all good.
If I was you I'd try to remove the remaining part carefully using pliers.
Did you already removed the cable from the IEM a few times already? If not expect resistance. Like a lot of resistance. But keep in mind it's perfectly normal.

For those who broke their pins:
Decided to change the connector to mmcx. The housing can be opened by pushing a pen knife along the seams near the connector and gradually split the shells apart. The hole for the connector is quite big so the mmcx won’t be secured like this. Also it will move about if you move the cable so if anyone does this mod you will have to put something behind the pins of the mmcx. I used blutack as a temporary measure. Note the connector will stick out unless you trim the pins.

While we're on the subject of measurements, here's how the 50 and 70 measure respectively, from Golden Ears:

My IM50s seem a little brighter than that up top, but everything else is how I hear it with stock tips and filters on.

Where did you find the measurement of the IM50? At innerfidelity I can not find any of the IM50. Also, other sites seem to have no measurement of this in-ear?

It has been a long time since my IM-50 was lying around in the drawer with a broken cable. However, this week I've got a new 3rd party cable and mesh filters to use these again. I've been using the o-ring mod on the nozzle as spacer + Tennmak turbo eartips which the bore is rather wide.

Damn, after listening ER4B/XR/Blitzwolf ES-1/KZs for a long time, my memories from IM-50 were something bassy with good mids and a considerable roll off at the treble but... This iem has a signature so unique and musical compared to my other IEMs. Also, highs are way better than I had in my memory, maybe that's because I'm not using small bores eartips anymore and a different mesh filter now.

Is there any DD from these new ATH IEMs which is considered a direct upgrade from IM-50? Rediscovering this IEM this week has been a joy. I can't even believe I paid ~$40 for these a long time ago.
