Arcade Fire Reflektor SQ?

I had the opportunity to listen, finally, to Arcade Fire's latest, Reflektor recently. It was a FLAC rip of a CD so should have been OK, but I found it to be a mess - pretty much unlistenable. Has anyone else had this experience? I like this band a lot, so it's not the music itself. Am I:

a) having an off day

b) listening to a bad rip

c) listening with the wrong kit (HE500, DA&T Dac/Amp)

d) yet another victim of the loudness wars

I'd be interested if I should bother to seek out a CD of better of this and give it another go - or if the album is actually just badly produced. Anybody know please?

Listening right now for the first time with headphones (HD-418), and indeed the bass is all over the place... sounds like a different instrument is playing every note.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me. Such a shame, this album rightly got great reviews but it sounds dreadful on my kit...
