Need a headphones recommendation

post #1 of 13

Hello everyone, I am currently looking for a pair headphones that is good for music, movies and partly gaming. I listen to music most of the time. I have a PC350 now but the sound does not really impress me that much, I will return it this Thursday.

I use the headphones with the Creative X-FI surround 5.1 pro. I wear glasses so over the ear headphones hurt my ears a lot. I prefer:

+ Around the ear headphones.

+ Closed acoustic cause I usually listen to music late night.

+ if the headphones had amp,it would be nice.

+ 0-> $200 budget.

All suggestions are welcome and thank you for your help everyone.

What music genres do you prefer? Some headphones sound better for some genres than others.

I usually listen to Jpop, and orchestra gaming music.

do you tend to like the bass, mid, or treble better? If it's Jpop, then I'm guessing mid/treble?

Try the JVC HA-S680, that thing is really nice if you give it some burn-in time.

JVC HA-S680 look nice but it is Japanese imported, but I am kind of skeptical about ordering stuff over sea.

in that price range I'd go with the VMODA M-80s. If your willing to save up to $300-$350 though you'll have tons of other options.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I have read the reviews about th VMODA M-80s and they have not very big ear pads which is not comfortable for people with big ear like me.

I have read like a ton of review for headphones in my price range and the over the ear headphones like HD598 has everything that i need except noise isolating. How much do these headphones leak? do they leak like a lot that a person with very good ear can hear it from the next room? (my table is leaning against the wall my room share with the other room).

The leak enough that, yes, people will be able to hear what your listening too rather clearly. IMO I'd shy away from an open-backed can to a closed-basked. A cheaper option, that has full-sized pads, is the Sennheiser HD 25-1 ii. If you shop around (i.e. google) you can find a pair of those for under $200.

Do you use an iPod as your music source? Have you considered an entry level amp ($100ish) to complement your new cans. An amp, even with low impedance, can certainly help performance.

No, I listen to music in my computer with a Creative X-Fi surround 5.1 pro as the sound card. All the songs I have are in .flac.
