Hifiman HE-400i and HE-560: From CES to Pre-Launch - Page 62

I wouldn't sell HE-500 before trying out HE-560. Who's to say people won't prefer the HE-500 over HE-560? After all, it's already a proven success. Especially if they discontinue the HE-500, this could cause the price of the HE-500 to go up, especially if it can hold its own unique sound signature or ends up being sonically preferred. It looks the focus has been more on ergonomics and comfort for the new headphones. As others have mentioned, single-sided magnets are harder to control distortion. This has happened before with other headphones where people prefer the older over the newer like the Stax SR-007 mk1 is preferred over the mk2.

The For Sale forum is taunting me. Atleast 2 more months of the 400 tizz. HD650 can you help me? Yes I can, but I don't have the planar touch you seek. March, come tomorrow!

I got temporary ADD from reading this..

Just go for the 500. Just bought a new one last week and am glad I did.

It turns out, I couldn't wait either. HE400's, it's been fun.

Hmm, I love HiFiMAN, but my goodness, it's going to take a miracle to improve over the HE-500. I just got the LCD-2, and I'm considering re-selling or trading it here soon... :D

Well...had the HD800, got rid of it. Had the HE-6, got rid of it. Which one has stayed through it all? Shall I go on? wink.gif

Still using them. Love them so far. I wouldn't go as far as saying they put the HE-500 in another sonic league above the stock velours, as there's probably a bit of placebo, but there is an audible improvement this far. Still letting my brain get used to the sound. smile.gif

Figured. I do like different aspects of the velours and pleathers, but like jerg said each has its own disadvantage. Can't wait to see if the jergpads fill in these gaps...

@Austin Morrow will you try the cotton balls on your 500 for me and tell me what you think please?  I never got to try going from stock pad straight to modded.  all my pads had been jerg modded.  also i only have a 400 so i'm curious if the difference in imaging on the 400 is different than the 500 with angled pads with more space

May be a little late to the party but they look nice and am interested to see how SQ wise they compare to the LCD-2s.

When I Heard single sided Magnets i almost automaticly threw away the idea of ever buying them.

My first thought was "wait, so one side of the headphones is heavier than the other one? That cant be good, right?".

I think there are too many things that can go wrong with single side magnets (and im not really skilled at electronics, just seems logical)...

Also I do have to note that even if they prove to be better sounding the price did go up, so... Its not that cool.

Im looking forward to hear opinions on the headphones when they actually come out anyway, since i Really enjoy my HE-400.

On a side note, wasent HE-400 relesed like in 2012? Feels a bit too fast to relese a line 2 years after the previous one, some people might feel like they bought something that was more like a testing product (like all the HE-400 revisions). I feel slightly that way but it dosent bother me that much since the price went up for the 400i... Just feel a bit odd (especially since i bought the HE-400 about a year ago).

Just sayin.

Pretty sure single-sided means only one side of each diaphragm is covered with magnets. Currently magnets cover both sides for each driver. It will still be balanced weight. Each driver still needs magnets to work silly.
