Fang provided some basic specs here in the thread. I quoted them in the original post.

Yeah, I really wonder where they're going with it all. But I'm sure they'll provide a clearer explanation closer to launch.

I'm assuming, with the price adjustment, that it's between the HE-500 and HE-6.  I doubt it'll totally replace the HE-560, if the sound signature is as different as Steve G and Fang say.

Steve G said it was an improvement over the HE-500.

I just got HE-6, should have waited for He-560?

No

The headband looks quite nice in these photos (or are they renders?) compared to the Cnet image though:

^ ok, I haven't seen these pics until now. The headband looks much nicer compared to the top-down pic they released yesterday. Actually looks a bit more comfortable to wear.

I must agree. I guess angle does make things sexier :P Those wooden cups are a nice touch.

Mmmm, that headband is looking very comfy. At the very least it should distribute weight a heck of a lot better than the current HiFiMan headband design.

I'm salivating at those pics. Very very nice looking headphones imo. Nice find jerg.

It sounds like Hifiman are listening to the buyers, they are working on making them more efficient, lighter, better pads, and also changing the headband.

Thanks so much, Jerg! Those do look like the actual product rather than renders, and the headband looks significantly more comfortable than in the Cnet photos.

Definitely more modern, functional and ergonomic, almost Stax-like (which is fine by me) but still unique enough.  The older style definitely looks more 'vintage' which I also like, but I think it's still a good approach.  I think the color scheme looks better on the HE-400i in these pictures given the new headband materials.  Also, you'll notice if you look close that the SMC connectors appear to be slightly angled towards the front

They look like the same headband...  Except for 2 things, first is that the shot is taken from a different angle, second is that the headbands are adjusted to a different size in these pictures (look at the sliders on the sides).
