Either bad or good there should be a noticeable change in SQ from the previous models instead of just staying almost the same. I find it odd for the sound to almost not change at all when there is a complete redesign done.

I would have to agree, unless the goal was to sound exactly the same, and there wouldn't be much point to that unless just lighter was the goal. Time will tell. I look forward to hearing them.

I didn't know they are single sided magnet's now, so like the Abyss right? I'm not saying it will sound like that but I agree that with that big a change the sound signature has to be different to some extent. They also look a lot like the Abyss now with the head band design.

I really hope that the 400i fixes the SQ issues and retains the good qualities of the 400. Even just a small bump on the mid-high freq. I'll be happy enough. I can only hope for the 400i the best since I know I wouldn't be able to buy an HE-560 with its price.

I strongly believe that Dr. Fang aims for better SQ instead of just improved comfort. Time will tell! :)

For the 400's improvement, leave the bass all the way to mids alone. That whole area alone made the HE-400 sublime. It was everything after that that needed fixing.

So how does this HE-560 compared with HE-500 ? any difference in between those two ?

Uh..... It's not released yet. And we've already heard from those who sampled it.

I was about to pull the trigger on HE-500s or LCD 2s, but it sounds like I should wait for these.

I really want to order a Hifiman HE-560 too but was considering my place is not suitable for open-back headphones so I ordered an Alpha Dog. That could be my last headphone for at least couple years. Need to put my money on something else. This hobby costs too much money that I can not afford .

Unless Fang releases a closed-back HifiMan planar. ;) (I hear your wallet shrieking in pain already)

I'm really interested in how closed back ortho hp design differs from open back. When I first got my HE400 I would listen to a song with my hand over the grill... it was terrible. Same as goes with the HE4

I hope the 560 sounds better than the Abyss at $899. That would be good... very good. Haha.

xD ikr

I just received a pair of HE-400 over the weekend. Biggest difference I noticed immediately is how the soundstage opened up as compare to my ATH W1000Xs. The ATHs sound like the best set of headphones I ever had; but thats the issue, I can still tell they are headphones. As I am familiar with the sound the HEs set everything apart and the more I listened the more it made everything sound a bit dicsonnected. Maybe that will pass but I wonder what the new 400i will do. The 560 looks like a great set but at near twice the price I think Ill wait for a lot of reviews here before I buy.

yea I have a w1000x, and I like the closed in nature of the sound stage, or rather the intimacy as we sometimes refer to it

non the less, disconnected is how a friend of mine described the he 400 again'st the w1000x, the W1000x sounded Natrual the HE 400 was kind funny and disjointed

that said for EDM I thinkit's it's hands down epic

but again let's hope the 400 i has a HE 4 sound signiture or at least some more upper mids!

it sounded nice~ I have a pair of HE500 and is enjoying it a lot, no plan to upgrade anytime soon, but the stiff silver cable somehow annoys me here and then, anyone know that does the new HE-560 comes with a new cable which is better built so that I can switch to? I was originally planning to get the HE-6 cable but since it uses an adapter to connect from balanced-> single ended, and my amp only have 6.3mm output, if the new cable is single ended only and with quality similar to current HE-6 cable I will be very interested to get one, also the new angled pads looked interesting and I would like to have a shot of them on the HE-500 if they are compatible!

It'd be sick if the HE-6 successor goes with the current headphone naming trend (replacing the number with "X"), so it'd be called HEX. Hifiman HEX has a good ring to it.
