Not so much ear canal guidance, but angled pads will have an affect on the sound. Audeze pads are angled and this lends to the bass.

They're that good, do the felt and grill mod... you won't even think about the 500s (unless you want a thicker mid phone).

Limited time on those he4s at $450 though... I suspect these are the first to go in the current line-up with the 400i and 560 being the new single magnet orthos.

I have a feeling the new Single Magnet Ortho's will be on par with the HE4, meaning the 400i will eventually drop in price

and I liked my dt 880 because it didn't need any mods, I'm not interested in having to mod an HE4 with Jerg  and a felt and grill mod. School is starting again so there goes all my free time

I think you're wrong. They won't. They'll be more efficient and better

I understand the excitement over the HE-560, but I REALLY want to hear more about the HE-400i. If it's a clear upgrade to the HE-400 I'll be there day one. The HE-400 is pretty much my go-to can for electronic music, so if they tweak the treble a tad and keep improving the already superb bass I will be one happy man.

The reduced weight would just be the cherry on top!

I am very interested in either the 560 or 400i too.

I am planning to get one of the two to be driven by a conventional amp and then the Jade II for my first electrostat setup :]

As far as any HE-6 successor goes though, as long as it demands as much swing as the HE-6 did and as long as it scales infinitely, like the HE-6, I am not getting it.

I realized far too late that for the HE-6 to shine, a conventional headphone setup ain't gonna cut it. Still a reference headphone no doubt, just unlikely for me :]

I'll gladly get the 560/400i instead this time around :D

CES 2014 is over so it might be a while before we get more impressions of these new HiFiMAN headphones. Hopefully they will send review samples out before March.

Fang and Co. if you are reading, please design a headphone case that fits the headphones WITH the cable attached. That would be splendid :D.

Dr. Fang, a headphone tour is always a good way to build buzz and excitement and increase sales. I will volunteer to be first on the tour biggrin.gif
